I love all the Fallout games. It's the way it is with any title that becomes a series.
Certain things are dropped and certain things are added between titles. Personally NV is easily my favorite Fallout game, but it has far more issues than 4. As a matter of fact, 3 and NV were only acceptable as RPGs because of their intensive stories.
People will whine about the lack of a faction system but the system in NV was both pointless and broken. At times it would be easy to garner trust from the various factions of the game, at times it was wholly impossible and thus a lot of content becomes barred.
Also, the crafting systems in 3 and NV were shit. Few items in 3, an almost completely random feel to it. Almost like they threw it in last minute! NV was a bit better what with weapon attachments but they were a pain to find in shops. You'd have to wait weeks on end just to have the chance to get a single weapon mod..
Last bit? In 3 and NV each, a DLC made the item deterioration aspect (which was a slight pain without jury rigging perk from NV) pointless. Provided us with items that could fix broken weapons completely.
4 had gameplay mechanics for days, you could say that it brushed up on many things that were left in the dust in previous titles.. mostly crafting. I believe they shouldn't have spent as much time on crafting as they did though. Story is always more important in an RPG, imo.

Edited by shell: 1/29/2017 10:24:19 PMOf course pissing off a faction bars off questlines. Why is that a complaint?

What's the difference between pissing off and a lesser anger? Various actions and mission choices had varying degrees of effect on faction reputation, and they were never EVER set in stone. It was an unfinished system they implemented, or bugged. Probably both.

If they would take fallout 3's story and have all the crafting and mechanics from 4 in it they would have an amazing game. Loved fallout 3's story, fallout 4's was just kind of there

Edited by What I Look Like: 1/29/2017 12:14:29 AMHonestly the story was decent enough. They could've fleshed it out a bit more but that's a whole other beast lol. Fallout 3 progressed so fast man, like one minute you're in Megaton and then BAM! your dad dies. Spoilers? Possibly. It's an old game. It was pretty awesome though. What really made me mad about Fallout 4 was the DLC centered around crafting. Those were basically mod material.. Far Harbor was amazing though. And Nuka World was kind of odd, but fun nonetheless. Hard if you're on survival and don't have anti-radiation perks :/
