Fun game but I got tired of the super lag and chopping wood. Freakin 9 hours to tame a Dino. Just to have it killed by a pack of alpha raptors.
After losing everything a few times you kinda just say screw this.

9 hours? You are doing it wrong.

Obviously exaggerated for a low lvl mammoth tame. Point is it will take a while. When all I have is freakin berries

Need wood? Tame a mammoth! They can clear a given forest faster than you could manage the same area by hand, and collect more wood to boot.

Beaver > mammoth for wood.

Haven't tamed one of those yet because the areas they spawn all have bases built on them...

Edited by Kankunation: 1/23/2017 3:56:20 AMUnfortunately a big issue when playing on the island. Not so much an issue in the center as there's far more areas for them to spawn thankfully. Hopefully the devs add some more spots around rivers and more inland lakes.

Yeah let me just spend the next day or two getting ready for the hour or so it will take to tame it. I'll probably get killed by sabertooth or birds if I dont stave/freeze/dehydrate before then.

It's not that difficult to manage you're food and water. Temperature is a problem if you go to the arctic definitely, but a few fires should solve that As for the taming itself, they did just double the taming rates on all servers, as well as the resource gather rate and the exp gain rate. It's noticeably easier now to get ahead and stay ahead.
as a side note, beaver >>> mammoth. A long tame without kibble, but can be picked up with an argh and can carry just as much, if not more wood than a mammoth, with just as high efficiency in gathering and far more utility overall. Only downsides are an expensive saddle and the fact that theirs spawns are limited to only a few small areas.
