• That worked in the 80's when there console was King and no proper competition. But with PS4 being King and Xbox Scorpio around the corner that kind of tactic wouldn't fly

  • They don't care, they continue to do it for whatever reason. I guess they think that tactic still works.

  • Well, I am sure that the first batch will be undersuplied, I think Nintendo thinks that will improve sales on the longterm, and it seems they are right. It doesn't matter though, if the rumours are correct it won't launch with Zelda in Europe due to localisation so I have no reason to buy it at launch.

  • Hopefully they are not too busy fulfilling the still crazy demand for the NES Classic to get enough units ready for launch next month. Nintendo has a bad habit of not gauging demand accurately.

I mean you said it yourself they have a bad habit of this. Which means they've done this over and over again. They purposely hold back supply in an effort to drum up attention and incite a potential sales boost once more are released. It's an interesting idea, but it can't be proven either way.

That's something Nintendo could get away with in the 80's when they were the king. But with Playstation being the current King. (Best selling console of holiday 2016) And then MS Scorpio on the Horizon. Nintendo cant afford to not enough units come launch

Wii u : 13.4 million Ps4: 42.18 million Xbox one: 21.68 million - source ng4 Edit : Also nice copy paste from your previous reply to someone else.
the last part of my comment is made as a lighthearted poke. Just writing this to make sure my point is taken as it should. Since it's sometimes difficult to interpret nuance in a comment without it being spoken.
• I've thought about that too, especially in the lead up to Christmas when demand would be at its peak, but here we are in January and they are still worth thier weight in gold. Same thing that happened with the Wii for up to a year after release. Could be a resource allocation problem while trying to get the Switch ready to launch, or maybe they just don't want to commit to a production rate increase yet. Hard to say for sure.

Maybe it is huge demand and not being able to predict sales. But it feels like it's always Nintendo that's having scarcity problems. Another example that comes to mind are those Amibos. Hopefully it is just Nintendo prioritizing production for the Switch. If the switch becomes another scarcity problem. Then for sure I'll remember this conversation, and I'll be laughing that it's happening again.

I'm sure 7:30 is fine. You probably won't be the only person waiting in line for a switch. The supply will mainly depend on the people in your area, and how much demand there is for it.
