[spoiler]I remember seeing a post and reading some grimoire (probably one of the Rasputin ones) stating that the traveler attempted to escape when the darkness came, but Rasputin crippled the traveler so it couldn't flee. It also makes sense that it would do that saying what it did to the fallen.[/spoiler]
