Thank you for this. Probably the longest post I have ever read on here (and one that I actually enjoyed reading). I agree with everything you said. The number of players playing trials plummets each and every weekend because people are getting tired of the weapon imbalance; and the overall BS of tryhards, top players, and carries (paid or not, this doesn't matter). Sadly, none of this can be avoided in a game mode like trials. Sure, you will have your top 1% PvPers playing every weekend, but this means that trials will become very intense (sweaty) for most. Perhaps this was the original goal? Make it as tough as possible so only the best of the best players will make it to the lighthouse each weekend. However, this is also a double-edged sword because most of the players who started playing trials aren't playing anymore (numbers are declining rapidly). Furthermore, trying to make something so difficult -- or inadvertently causing this elitist attitude of going flawless every weekend -- has turned trials into two things: A sweat-fest for some, or a pub-stomp for others... Not fun for either side if you ask me. Trying your hardest to win each and every match gets old fast (regardless of what others think about "earning" the lighthouse victory), and pub-stomping teams takes the fun out of it as well (completely sweeping each and every team can't be fun). They have a long way to go if trials (or any variation of it) returns in Destiny 2. As for inadvertently (or intentionally) causing this elitist attitude... This community tends to be split down the middle, on most things, but trials has also made the PvP scene more toxic. Just my opinion. Great post!

 • Thanks for reading, and I do agree, trials should be tough and competitive. But I think the toxicity that you speak of was born in the effects of matchmaking changes that made the system predictable, which lead to manipulation, and ultimately tampering. I made it a point in my story, that on my first Flawless run, I defeated teams that we're on their 8th, and instead of receiving hate mail, they were trying to recruit me for their team... That was the vibe then. Now no one will play with me because my ELO isn't high enough... even our field as though I am a detriment of the team... So I'm out. One less player. I imagine others feel the same. It doesn't have to be this way, and most of us know that something is not right... But alas.
Make it as tough as possible so only the best of the best players will make it to the lighthouse each weekend.
Making something difficult is one. Make it almost impossible and too many people simply walk away. That's when there's a problem and it should be addressed.
