Overwatch original? Yeah and I suppose Paladins and COD are original too? Don't know why Fallout got best audio either. How is Pokemon GO innovative? There was literally a game just like it before it came out just didn't have Pokemon slapped on it. They really made a mess out of these awards this year. Glad to see Dark Souls 3 got the top award though.

-
Original IP. Why are so many people failing to understand that?
-
The part where it didn't say Original IP
-
It's obvious. Besides, there's no such thing as an original game. Every game is derivative of another, or something else.
-
That's not true.
-
Please, name a game that is original in every single way, from its visual presentation to its controls, soundtrack, story, gameplay, absolutely everything.
-
Snake? Pong? That's all I got.
-
Pong is a tennis clone. Snake uses directional input.
-
Having controls makes a game unoriginal? Fine. Bertie the Brain, the first video game ever made, is the only original video game ever created.
-
Folks complaining that Overwatch isn't original is what raised this absurdity. Half-Life was a new IP in 1998, but I wonder how many folks initially rolled their eyes at another sci-fi FPS running on a modified Quake engine.
-
Very true however I think "New IP" would have been better
-
I'm happy Fallout 4 won best Audio. I absolutely loved Diamond City Radio.
-
The songs are very limited though so it wouldn't deserve it at all.
-
Not too limited. There was over 30 songs on Diamond City. I just found it to be one of the more memorable soundtracks.
-
And how many of those songs did they reuse from 3 and new vegas? Songs and soundtrack aren't the only things in audio. There is also the weapon sounds and ambient sounds and what not. You really think that fallout 4 beats the likes of the witcher, dark souls and especially battlefield?
-
There's 25 songs and 5 originals for fallout 4. Then an additional 12 that was from Fallout 3 and one from New Vegas. And yes, to me, it was definitely more of a memorable soundtrack than the rest. It was actually one of the better things I enjoyed about the game.
-
So you just completely denounce the other audio I just mentioned, like weapon sounds, dialogue and ambience etc? All that is extremely mediocre in fallout 4. Battlefield 1 has it beaten easily.
even in the soundtrack, battlefield 1 has it beat. It is music that is relevant to the period, and uses it in the most suitable moments. Some of the tracks in Fallout 4 have been taken from points further in time than when it's influenced from.
Edited by TommyG: 11/20/2016 10:48:57 PMNot completely denouncing it at all, but most times the games are going to be judged mainly on the original soundtrack/score rather than how real the pew pew sounds are. (it's a little obvious a game set more around the realism of weapons is going to have better sounding guns than a game that has weapons made out of pipes) I just think, personally, that Inon Zur did a great job on the score, doubled with the great soundtrack from Diamond City Radio. Also, Fallout 4 is set in 2287. I'm pretty sure none of the songs picked were released further in time... Just out of curiosity, did Battlefield 1 miss the cut off for voting? It wasn't even in the top 3
We could argue opinions all day. Nothings gonna change though...
-
Then it would be soundtrack not audio.
-
And what would the difference be? Don't be so pedantic.
-
Sound quality(sound fx mostly and other misc. sound) and Soundtrack(music or in game source music). There's definitely a difference.
-
Edited by TommyG: 11/20/2016 4:47:44 PMFair enough. Maybe they should have been a little more specific instead of generalising it as 'audio'. I took it to be the soundtrack, I don't see why you would judge a game on sound effects...
-
If a game really sounds amazing you would definitely get me. But unfortunately there aren't many games that really go above and beyond in terms of sound quality. You know?
