Make Political Threads Against the Rules Again?

I never liked the rule being removed, and I certainly feel now more than ever we would benefit from having religious and political discussions banned from bungie.net again. How does everyone else feel? Do you feel that our community is mature enough to handle these discussions when people everywhere else seemingly can't?

  • I can see both sides to this one. First though, to the argument that these are interesting and informed discussions I call automatic BS. The next serious discussion I see will be the first. It's name calling and copying whatever Reddit post they read 5 minutes prior. I'm more sympathetic to the argument that participation in these threads is optional and they can be ignored if it's not your cup of tea. However, to that I have two concerns. First one is crowding out. The volume of these posts makes it that much harder to find the silly, fun, interesting posts you actually want to participate in. And the more effort required, the fewer people will participate, leaving these threads to wither. Second is forum atmosphere. Since these threads are without exception antagonistic, it breeds a culture of dickishness that spreads to other threads as well, so that even if you did try to start a fun, silly or interesting thread you'll only be insulted. So I guess in balance is have to agree it would be better not to have these threads.
