The Nine exist to strengthen the Guardians. The idea of an Ahamkara deal is interesting. Only question is what price have they paid?
The Hive have to always kill and never stop or they die.
Guardians are driven insane from the deals they've made.
So what price could the Nine have paid in order to survive the Collapse and the suffocating Darkness?

I'm not 100% convinced that the Nine are on board with completely on the Guardian band wagon. 1. Xur says that it is possible the Nine might help. This would reinforce my theory that they are only helping the Guardians b/c at the moment, we benefit them and their current plans. 2. The Nine released Skolas. That seemed like a play to weaken the Awoken of the Reef and threaten the Guardians of the City. It failed, but maybe the Queen angered the Nine or they were worried about the growing strength of the Guardians? It is almost like the Nine want the Guardians to only just strong enough to keep the threats at bay but not too strong to completely defeat. 3. I understand that in the current game dynamic, you are correct. They needed a mysterious entity to be an exotic vendor and the Nine and Xur have delivered on that. So as of right now the Nine are here to help. 4. Bungie has been able to cast a shadow of doubt on everyone's motives in the game, enclosing the Traveler's! It's interesting to see all the lore paint a deeper and more opaque world. The Deeper into the lore, the more you realize how complicated Destiny is. So can we blindly trust the Nine to always help?

I read somewhere the Nine do want to help Guardians. If the Hive were to complete their pact with the Worm Gods the Nine would he on their list of entities to snuff out
