Its oval and called a footy oval...the ball is also oval....hmm we may be a bit ocd there, but it would sound shithouse calling it the footy rectangle now wouldnt it?

Just recently started being shown on a major network in America I'm getting really into it.. next question I get why the captain wears the cap for ID purposes and all but sometimes other players wear them too, is there some limit? Only certain positions wear helmets? I can't imagine it's that much of a hindrance or is it just some macho rugby thing? This has been weighing on me since watching wasps v Saracens a few weeks ago

It's just a coincidence that the captain was wearing headgear. It's predominantly the 'forwards' in the team that wear it. They're the bulkier and/or taller players in the team who do all the hard work while the 'backs' are the speedsters. It's kind of like all the fat blokes you guys stick in the line of scrimmage vs the running back/quarter back etc (I really don't know NFL positions from a bar of soap). They wear it for head protection. They don't wear pads and full body armour because they're not a bunch of pussies like NFL players.

I have no idea man, as far as I know no rugby players wear helmets or caps? We must be talking about different stuff? Or do you mean we have our own gridiron league? Apologies if that's the wrong name.
-
Definitely saw some guys wearing concussion caps..
-
It's true. It's not the captain though. The lack of pads can sometimes hurt heads.

Oh, just the strap on headgear? Yeah that's just personal preference man, nothing to do with captaincy or anything.
