When you do them apart from the Vanguard Playlist, the chests still appear.
Which would lead me to assume, that keys will also drop from them.
As for Grasp of Malok.
Have to keep opening the chest.
It only comes from there.

Bungie needs to fix this soon. I'm almost 386 and a lot of people I'm seeing are above 385, so there's really no point in doing Strikes w/o getting Skeleton Keys b/c legendary engrams only decrypt up to 385.

You are absolutely right. Unfortunately, those are wasted hours now. Better off playing Crucible for 2-3 hours. Legendaries rewards at the end of each game can drop 400 Light. I have opened that chest almost 10 times now and I still haven't received Grasp of Malok. A friend of mine received Grasp of Malok twice within a few days. Nature of the beast.
