How I Maximize Damage on Aksis Prime (4,000,000+ on Heroic)

This strategy can be used no matter what class you are running, but I will be including some special tips for a Titan running Sunbreaker with Melting Point. All of my characters are 395+ light, and unless I land with a group of high-end professionals, I almost always pull over 4 million damage on Heroic, with the next highest being half or less than that. Most frequently, we 3-cycle him to death if no major mistakes are made. I have come dangerously close to 2-cycling him, but normally it's more like 2.1 cycles, with him teleporting to mid long before the end of the damage phase on round 3. I am also assuming you understand the basic mechanics of the fight. Class: Sunbreaker Titan running Melting Point and Simmering Flames; Strength is maxed out (I get a new Melting Point charge every 12.5 seconds). I do not use my Super - it's all about those melee charges. Thermite Grenades don't hurt, either. NOTE: It is not essential to be running this class, but as Melting Point gives the biggest damage boost available, it helps everyone out a lot. You could also help out with a warlock running Viking Funeral and Touch of Flame, or a hunter with Tether. Special Consideration: Tether will overwrite Melting Point, but Viking Funeral will stack with whatever is active at the time. Exotic Armor: An Insurmountable Skullfort. This grants an extra melee charge. You could also use Thagomizers, but that would mean you don't get the extra heavy drops from Fallen using the Raid Gauntlets. In summary, I can hit Aksis with 2 melee charges for a total of 11 seconds, and then apply a third 1.5 seconds later. This maximizes the amount of time his armor is reduced for everyone. It is entirely possible to apply this on his second AND third teleport, if you're able to finagle it. You just have to practice. Weapons: Steel Medulla (Raid Pulse Rifle - 1-pulses Shanks to death. Least important slot), Ex Machina (Raid Sniper, 2nd in importance), DARK DRINKER (Exotic Sword - absolutely crushes the damage charts after the Scorch Cannons. We are talking 100,000-ish per spin, with the proper buffs and debuffs applied). Mechanics Do the fight as normal up until the point Aksis begins teleporting around. I am normally the designated cannon grabber on my side, and if I'm empowered, I snipe my servitors from my side to minimize the risk of not being where I need to be when Aksis starts teleporting. If you can't snipe, I recommend practicing: From Left to Right or Right to Left, you can tag the servitors as they make their way out of the door, before they turn and start heading towards the sacrifice point. You actually have a solid 7-10 seconds with a straight-on shot that can be easily made, assuming Aksis isn't being a pain and showering you with bullets. The middle servitor is the easiest to hit, but practice with leading the shot just a little bit for those times you need to. Until you get good at sniping, just be quick to get back to your spot. When Aksis teleports for the first time, and if I am close enough to him, I will rush him. As I approach, I fire a shot from my Scorch Cannon and continue to hold the trigger. Before I let it rip, I hit him with Melting Point (you will have to be up on his side, in the air, to ensure a good connection between your fist and his body). The moment the debuff is applied, I blow him up and immediately fire a second, then a third shot (being sure to hold the trigger long enough to get max damage). These hit for over 110,000 each with nothing but Melting Point applied. If I am not close enough to him to debuff him with time to spare, I will just start firing my cannon at him from across the map until the next teleport. On his second teleport, I try to repeat the above. If I can remember, I'll also drop a Thermite Grenade at his feet. You have some more time, so I will hit him with my (now recharged) second Melting Point charge when the first runs out. Remember: Fire and hold, then Melt, then explode. This allows the most hits with the debuff applied. You can almost always get at least 2, if not 3, hits on him before Melting Point needs to be reapplied. At some point during the 2nd teleport, you will probably run out of scorch cannon ammo. When that happens, get out your Ex Machina and shoot him in the head with it. You don't have to stand back: If you run out of Cannon ammo early, you can continue the Melting Point applications and simply look up from his feet to shoot him in the face. His head has a hitbox the size of a Volkswagen, so it's fairly easy to land. Alternatively: If you have the Sword ammo to spare, especially if you have the Relic that gives you an extra 20 rounds, you can start using Dark Drinker at this point (as described below). I shouldn't need to mention this, but just in case you forgot: Covering a plate when empowered is much more important than applying Melting Point to the boss. So if you're empowered, just hit him with your cannon and sniper rifle until the third teleport. It is possible to debuff him on left or right while you cover front-mid, but that's a lot to keep track of. Don't extend yourself beyond your limits. On the third teleport, it's time to continue your ass-whooping, with gusto. By now, you should be long dry on Scorch Cannon ammo and ready to spin up your Dark Drinker. With any luck, you will also have a Weapons Bubble Titan in your party, and they will also have Dark Drinker. This Titan should drop their bubble at Aksis' feet for anyone fortunate enough to have the Dark Drinker. Here's where it gets a little tricky. You need to put away your Heavy long enough to apply Melting Point, then get it back out and spin it into him 3-4 times before putting it away long enough to re-apply. The hardest part at this point is connecting the punch. You can try to position yourself at one of his knees and punch his leg, but I have found that the most reliable way to get him debuffed is to jump up, smack him in the torso, and pull out Dark Drinker as you fall to the ground to spin anew. Don't forget to drop into that Weapons Bubble, if available. And that's it! Using this method, and with 3-4 people using Dark Drinker, I have seen 2/3 of his life vanish on round 1. If you have found any other little tips to maximize damage output, I'd love to hear about them!

    • Easier method: 1: tether/VF/Melting Point throughout teleport while using cannons. 2: everyone uses dark drinker within a bubble. 3: beat him with two phases.

    • From what I have gathered, you could potentially do even more damage if you had your warlocks throwing fusion grenades, coupled with Viking Funeral and Touch of Flame. It has been confirmed by Bungie that Viking Funeral does not overwrite Shadowshot or Melting Point. Citation: https://twitter.com/ka243/status/742762195218509825?s=09 So if you end up having two warlocks running Sunsinger you can have them stagger when they are throwing their grenades to continue the debuff throughout the entire third DPS period. The calculations have been done stating showing that their damage alone is nearly equal to a perfect run with black spindle, but it does overall more damage because of the extra debuff to the boss. Citation: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/4qj1a4/fusion_grenades_viking_funeral_has_greater_dps/ Furthermore, if you have two or three titans (one Sunbreaker and one or two Defenders with Weapons of Light and Illuminated, then you will get a even more damage done to Aksis. You just need to make sure that when warlocks aren't spamming grenades and titans aren't punching Aksis that they are slamming him with Dark-Drinker. To add one more layer, have your hunters run Gunslinger and Celestial Nighthawk just for that extra bit of Burst Damage. With this, you might be able to get to your two phase. TL;DR For max damage run fire team with 2 x Sunsingers (Spam fusion grenades sequentially with Viking Funeral and Touch of Flame activated) 1-2 x Defenders (WoL, Illuminated) 1 x Sunbreaker (Follow original posters build, Melting Point and Simmering Flames) 1-2 Gunslingers with Celestial Nighthawk (Hit the Head)

Actually you're better of with a PVE god roll Longbow/1000 Yard Stare or LDR. Look for Triple Tap - Casket Mag - Spray and play (This is because Ex Machima doesn't do extra damage to Aksis even though he's a Fallen enemy) My Longbow can hit Aksis in the head 7 times before I have to Re-load. Just thought I'd throw that out there!

            • Hey what does the most damage with Scorch Cannons? Fully charge them until they explode by themself or charge them until the glow bright and detonate immediately? I'm asking because you see the second method on those Aksis Solo's.

                  • fascinates me the number of titans that completely sleep on melting point. i main hunter and i know that having a sunbreaker or two on your team for aksis will change it for you. melting point has just never really been appreciated because the only other boss we've had that stands still without damaging you was golgoroth.

                        • Nice writeup! I myself use a Titan with melting point and I always wondered why almost nobody uses it. With weapons and melting point, the damage you can do is unreal. Do you have any tips for applying melting point on aksis? Sometimes I'll punch him and it will count as a melee but melting point won't be applied.

                            • I use the same strat when on my Titan. Usually have Thagomizors, will use skullfort now that I read this, completely forgot about that helmet. People argue to use weapons but having pretty much unlimited melting point is very nice. especially when I am not empowered I can hit a melting point each teleport that I am not empowered. Mix that with dark drinker and cannons, that is a lot of DPS.

                            • Mmmmhmnn. I see what you did here. 4M DPS is alright. Highest I've hit was just over 5M, but we had tons of tethers and I shot off all three cannons both DPS rounds since everyone was significantly lower in light and I was on double captain duty with Raze Lighter.

Thanks for the details. Datto has done a lot of work on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmDiPPDTdfg and has stated that Melting Point and Shadow Shot don't stack together (shadow shot only is applied) however Melting and Weapons or Weapons and Shadow Shot do Stack. Also multiple applications do not stack, so 4 melting point hits (or 4 shadow shots etc.) at the same time don't provide any additional damage. To summarize damage (this is from Datto): Shadow Shot Black Hole (8 second duration) = 35% damage boost Melting Point (6 second duration) = 50% damage boost Weapons of Light Illuminated + Bastion (45 seconds duration) = 35% damage boost So SS + WOL (multiplicative) = 82.5% increase (1000 damage becomes 1825) for 8 seconds So MP + WOL (multiplicative) = 102.5% increase (1000 damage becomes 2025) for 6 seconds So SS + MP (not multiplicative) = 35%% increase (1000 damage becomes 1350) for 8 seconds Note that you could do them in stages, for example, a MP, then 6 seconds later a SS, then 8 seconds later MP for 6 seconds, then a SS for 8 seconds while a Weapons of Light is being used to maximize damage. Of course, that requires a tonne of co-operation for people to get it all done, but it's something to think about and coordinate. HTH..
