  • Just started playing arena last month I'm negative or just positive (5-3,4-3) but always play the objective. I love strongholds and ctf. Slayer? Not so much.

That's cool yea I like slayer most, but ctf and strongholds are really fun too when everyone on your team is actually trying to play the objective. It sucks being the only guy on your team that is aware that flags exist lol. I have a video clip of me killing the enemy teams flag carrier right before he was about to score (like just steps away from their flag and scoring), and then I was killed immediately after. One of my teammates runs over and instead of taking the 3 seconds or so to return my teams flag, he decides to try and assassinate some random enemy that appears. The enemy guy wasn't even looking in the direction of our flag and didn't even seem to notice his team was 2 feet away from scoring. My idiot teammate walks right by my corpse and our flag. Of course the enemy guy kills him even though he was caught off guard and the enemy guy casually runs over, grabs the flag and scores. We lose the match 2-3. All of this happened in about 8 seconds or less.

  • Yeah, f'ning morons! I got team killed for capturing flag, about to score third point, they wanted to farm Spartan kills. We lost 3-2

  • Wow. I've been killed in an assault match when I was trying to score our second point. My teammate killed me and then tried to score the bomb himself and of course the enemy found him and killed him before he finished. I guess he wanted the medal for himself. I think we lost that match 3-2. We would have been up 2-0 if he had let me score.

  • Well the ranking system is -blam!-ed now. The 'resets' don't reset anything besides the visual so I get placed like I did when I used to play a lot and now I suck and get destroyed regularly.

Nah that's what it's supposed to do. It automatically ranks you up to whatever rank you consistently got. If you keep doing bad, eventually you'll get ranked lower to your appropriate skill level. The game looks at your skill over a long period of time, so you have to do bad for a long time before it deranks you a good amount. This is a good thing in my opinion because it gives you plenty of time to get your skills back without punishing you too hard. It would suck if a few bad matches had you de-rank from like Diamond to gold lol

  • So essentially the rank 'reset' does nothing besides make your trophy invisible for 10 games? I used to consistently play in low diamond, I get placed in high platinum and after a few games I'm usually back up into diamond playing in a good competitive spot for me. Now I still get placed high platinum (despite awful placement matches) and after getting carried a few games I'll be back up in diamond getting destroyed with no ability to derank. I really think no derank ability is really what causes such uneven games. It ruins the game for the solid diamonds cause I'm going negative and I never can leave because I'm stuck.

Nah it does something, it just does it very slowly (maybe too slowly) . The game doesn't count on people being skilled enough to reach a certain rank, and then suddenly lose that skill which is why it'll keep pairing you with others in that rank. I don't see this as a common issue, as most people who take a break from the game and come back are only rusty for a little while until they get back to how they always played. This issue really hurts people who sucked when halo 5 first came out, but then got better over time but are still stuck at a lower rank. It takes a while to rank up from say gold to diamond for example, the same way it takes forever to rank down lol. My gripe with multiplayer is that it doesn't reward individual skill. It doesn't matter if you go 0-20 or 20-0 if you lose the match, you de-rank. This means that there are a lot of Onyx and higher ranked players who suck, but have skilled friends that carried them. Also people like me who are decent, but always get matched up with afk people or bad players have a harder time ranking up. I understand that the devs wanted to encourage teamwork, but in halo 85% of people treat every gametype like lone wolf slayer so the ranking system becomes a problem.
