Should I get Survival Evolved? (Your personal gripes about development aside)

Yes

It's on discount right into my current price range on Xbox one and I'm wondering whether it's good. I'd go steam but I have a laptop and already have a few games I love on there so not enough room. I'm really looking for a 3D semi realistic survival game. Yay or nay?

If you enjoy games that require a bit of resource grinding, like Minecraft or 7 Days to Die, I think you'll really enjoy Ark. The official servers can be hit or miss depending on how the alpha tribes govern the server. Though I would recommend going into a single player game first. It's a great way to get a feel for the games core mechanics, without the worry of someone destroying your progress while you are offline. Another plus side to single player/local server is that you can adjust various settings of the game (harvest rates, taming speed, etc.) The building/crafting is a ton of fun. I shalt not disclose how many hours I spent building various bases, boat houses, breeding habitats. Taming the various wildlife is of course the best part of the game. It's quite in depth, and when you consider all the different species, levels, color combinations, skill points, and mate boosted pairs. There's a lot to keep you busy, and that's not even getting into finding a great pair to mate, which creates a higher leveled offspring. The game is still in development, so there's quite a bit to he added before any optimizations take place. That said, I'd buy the game again as is. :)

    • No, not yet. If you really want it, wait. When it gets a bit more into it's development then have a look at it.

    • On official servers it can get really grindy and taming can take a very long time, If you want to play on a PvP server it requires a lot of time to be put in for anything to happen, I would suggest you find a boosted-stats non-dedicated server if you don't have a lot of time to put in.

I just realized that it costs 35 dollars on console. Why do they do this. No matter how bad the console port of a PC game is they always mark it up. They take advantage of people that play on console.

    • It's amazing. The console commands make it fun if you get bored. You can literally spawn any item you want.

    • Current gripe is making us pay for the latest update. Besides that it's not bad as long as you have friends to play with

      • One of the few games I've become actually addicted to. Tons of fun playing on official servers. It's pretty grindy and at times will be a pain playing alone but it's a great game. Just too time consuming for me to play with my current life

Honestly. I bought it because hey it looked fun from what I saw. So I tried it, no servers available. Had to play alone. Got bored quickly. Now I'm sure server load isn't as bad. But when I did get in it, it was more like spawn kill evolved. So I started a lobby with just me and one friend. You have an invisible link to eachother which means you must always be near each other or you teleport. Not to mention the graphics did not appeal to me one bit for some reason, and it got boring really quick. Tldr: No, but this is based off my own experiences.

      • But I highly suggest getting it on steam if your computer can run it solely due to how good some of the mods are
