What happened? Everything I saw of the beta looked awesome?

The game turned out to be the EXPLORATION game that the devs told people (who were actually listening) to expect. The problem is that so many people hyped themselves up into thinking they were getting Elite Dangerous for the PS4...that its become a meme that's out of control. The game is getting bad mouthed for all manner of things the devs never actually promised. But so many people who didn't learn about this game have convinced themselves that they WERE promised them, that Steam and Sony just don't see fighting it to be worth the ongong bad publicity. A case of Perception (no matter how misguided) becoming "reality". Rather than reality being reality.

Go look up the reddit post called one man's lie. You are very misinformed or just really like the game. Eitherway, go educate yourself.

So if I just want to waste hours exploring and looking at cool space stuff for no reason other than it looks neat then I'm good to go? Because that's kind of what I thought it was supposed to be, and if so I think I'll give it a go.

I thought that too, but trust me, it gets really boring, especially when most planets are hostile, there isn't much to do on planets except mine really, and they're extremely big, and it's kinda hard to track more than one thing, or find past things.

From what I can gather it's like a dumbed down futuristic minecraft with better graphics but much less fun

I think mine craft has better graphics. Sure it's blocky, but that's the style. No mans sky sometimes has rendering issues.
