Lets get a few things clear with this "The Traveller is Evil" bit.
1. WE were minding our own business in our own star system. NONE of these assholes have a right to be here. They are home invaders....and every law on the books gives you the right to shoot them in self-defense.
2. Whether Guardians are "zombies" or warrior-angels really comes down to your own mindset, and level of cynicism. One of my two favorite gear desciptions from Year One went, " We (Guardians) are an army of the Chosen dead." Through out the lore are scattered clues that we were chosen NOT because we were dead, but because of who and what we were when we were living.
The other was, "Heaven can wait. There is far too much work to be done here in Hell."
3. No one has ever accused the Fallen of being evil in the Lore. They are described as a once noble people who have become Lost and have FALLEN from what they once were. We are fighting them, because they are convinced that they must eliminate US in order to get the Traveller (The Great Machine) back.
In fact if you read between the lines in the things Variks says and does,----even though he is presented as scheming and untrustworthy---it seems his goal is to tear down the society of Warlords and Pirates that the Fallen have become, and return them to what they used to be.
4. As far as the Cabal....apparently you MISSED that part where they were willing to blow UP the Dreadnaught and destroy most of our star system (and presumably us with it) in order to kill Oryx and to get ONE of their commanders back (The Shield Brother's Strike).
