We were a perfect couple in most aspects but before me he had been single for a looonng time that I don't think he knew how to accept that someone loved him the way I did but he was also incredibly selfish as he hadn't needed to think of anyone but himself for a while. Sad times.

It's based on "what I can get from you." If it's based on want, it says "I don't need you, I'm sufficient already, but adding you to my life will make it better". But even further than that, [u]real[/u] love is based on wanting the best for the person of your focus as in "I want to give of myself to make [u]your[/u] life better." 2) if you have to convince someone that they need you, it's not love. Love transcends reason. 3) you don't need to be "attached" to someone (dating, marriage, sex) to truly love them. But our first world society has grown so obsessed with "attached" love that it has bought into the lie that in order to love another person on a deep level, there must be dome romantic connection to it as well.
