There are no spoilers for the film in this post.
Suicide Squad was the film that could have saved the DC cinematic universe. When it was first shown in it's almost-complete form, it was a good film, according to the reporters who got too see it. But, those same reporters have now seen a film they say is very different from the one they originally saw, and they say it's not nearly as good. So what happened to Suicide Squad? The Hollywood Reporter wrote an excellent story about how Warner Bros executives changed the film, it's worth the read, but I'm just going to sum it up on a list:
1: The script was written in 6 weeks.
It's not the writers fault: he was given just 6 weeks to write the whole script.
2. Warner Bros changed the film.
Originally, Suicide Squad was a serious movie. It wasn't a dark, depressing Zac Snyder film, but it was a serious film with a serious plot, but was funny enough to keep you entertained. But then BvS flopped, and Deadpool was extremely successful, so Warner Bros decided to make a separate cut of the film with Trailer Park, the studio who made the awesome trailers. But the problem with that is, they make trailers, not full length films. So, most people liked the original cut better than the WB cut. But, WB decided to change the film anyway, and that's how we got this mess of a film with poor editing, a bad plot, and an awful villain, according to reviews.
Tl;dr: Warner Bros changed the film in order to make it like Deadpool, and failed horribly.

Edit 6: Saw the movie. Wasn't that good in my opinion, but it is better than BvS, deserves a higher rating, but not a good one.
Edit 7: 200 Replies? Thank you!

I really liked the movie, but I don't understand why people HATED the movie. I get if someone dislikes it, however the very low ratings aren't deserved.
