Dear Bungie, please stop with the rotating metagames with the launch of RoI.

I've been playing Destiny since shortly after launch and I probably lost count of all the different metagames we had until now. But I do know that with every balancing patch Bungie put out, they inadvertently created a completely new meta. Usually the weapon class that gets nerfed will disappear completely until 3-4 patches later. Good examples would be HCs, and ARs. With HCs basically having disappeared because of bloom after the taken King nerf, and ARs having been uncompetitive since the Vanilla nerf until the Doctrine buff. Everyone who played the PvP of this game throughout the different DLCs knows exactly what I am talking about. Currently we have a high RoF primary (Doctrine/Grasp/Hawksaw/TLW) and sniper meta by the way. Every new patch, you need to grind for the new OP weapon category once again. And this has to stop. A PvP player doesn't want to grind for good weapons. She/He simply wants to play the PvP. He/she will grind a bit, because it's a necessity if you want good weapons, but nobody does it because it's so much fun. (the removal of Reforging was a huge blow for serious PvP players) It also shows that true balance isn't the goal. Nobody can tell me that it's so damn hard to balance weapons after 3 years, trillions of kills in the Crucible and the unimaginable amounts of metadata collected. That's just absurd but if true, would say quite a bit about your balancing team and how serious the playerbase can take them. (TL:DR) So for the love of god, stop with the rotating metagames and balance the game in a way that all weapons have their uses for their respective ranges and scenarios. The long standing FPS franchises, from CS over UT, notably Halo as well, all had fairly stable metagames, even throughout different iterations. There's a reason why the greatest PvP FPS of all times did not employ rotating metagames. Last but not least: perks like danger close or exhumed should have never made it past play testing.

  • It isn't inadvertent, mate. That's Bungie's design philosophy. They believe a rotating meta game keeps people interested and keeps them playing. They opt for that tactic instead of trying to actually Balance it all. Personally I disagree with their tactic. It is frustrating to me. But there it is.
