Dear Bungie, please stop with the rotating metagames with the launch of RoI.

I've been playing Destiny since shortly after launch and I probably lost count of all the different metagames we had until now. But I do know that with every balancing patch Bungie put out, they inadvertently created a completely new meta. Usually the weapon class that gets nerfed will disappear completely until 3-4 patches later. Good examples would be HCs, and ARs. With HCs basically having disappeared because of bloom after the taken King nerf, and ARs having been uncompetitive since the Vanilla nerf until the Doctrine buff. Everyone who played the PvP of this game throughout the different DLCs knows exactly what I am talking about. Currently we have a high RoF primary (Doctrine/Grasp/Hawksaw/TLW) and sniper meta by the way. Every new patch, you need to grind for the new OP weapon category once again. And this has to stop. A PvP player doesn't want to grind for good weapons. She/He simply wants to play the PvP. He/she will grind a bit, because it's a necessity if you want good weapons, but nobody does it because it's so much fun. (the removal of Reforging was a huge blow for serious PvP players) It also shows that true balance isn't the goal. Nobody can tell me that it's so damn hard to balance weapons after 3 years, trillions of kills in the Crucible and the unimaginable amounts of metadata collected. That's just absurd but if true, would say quite a bit about your balancing team and how serious the playerbase can take them. (TL:DR) So for the love of god, stop with the rotating metagames and balance the game in a way that all weapons have their uses for their respective ranges and scenarios. The long standing FPS franchises, from CS over UT, notably Halo as well, all had fairly stable metagames, even throughout different iterations. There's a reason why the greatest PvP FPS of all times did not employ rotating metagames. Last but not least: perks like danger close or exhumed should have never made it past play testing.

  • I've said this before a million times. An RPG SHOULD NOT be completely balanced. Thats why there is so many different variations of guns for different maps and situations. For example: MIDA will beat Red Death from a further range Red Death will beat MIDA from a medium to close range TLW will beat both close range Grasp of Malok will beat Red Death but not MIDA from medium range TLW will compete with grasp for close range. The point is, if every gun and perk was completely balanced, it would ruin the game. Granted, I dont agree with the current play style people adapted to (rushing with universal), but we must remember it IS a primary. It is SUPPOSE to be the most overpowered shotgun because its EXOTIC. Exotic weapondry should hold an advantage over any other gun of that same weapon class. Unfortunately, Xur is providing scrubs and toxic players instant access to "hard to find" guns when they are suppose to be stupidly rare. The game is already too ruined to make any other arguement. Exotic weapons shouldnt be a welfare system, they should be worked for so only the guardians who put time, effort and hard work into getting them get rewarded. Remember TLW? How Xur sold it 3 times over the course of the Y1 TLW meta? Yeah, you can thank him for ruining everyones gaming experience in crucible. He provided every single person instant access to the most broken gun and then guess what? It got nerfed. TLW was suppose to be the most OP handcannon because it was so rare to find. But, everyone and their mother bought it and it became cancer. So many different aspects need to be looked at before saying "NERHF THIS GUIN!!1" Its BUNGIES fault for not being cautious on how they approach the accessibility of different weapons and armor. THEY caused this mess and everyone is paying for it. I can only hope that Destiny 2 is void of welfare garbage and more "grind to earn". I'm done hearing about "waaa i'm a grown man i have to work" "i have a family" "i have kids" "i dont have time". Shut the -blam!- up, because this game is an RPG, not a soup kitchen line you -blam!-ing plebs.

  • Just play with the weapons you have or ones that drop while you are playing. Why do you think you need to grind for "god roll" weapons? True balance would mean that there would be no competitive bonuses from weapon rolls correct? So why does it matter to you if you have your op rolls. Reforging does exist in a way. You can buy a weapon in almost every archtype from the gunsmith. You get three choices of rolls to choose from, of you do not like the rolls you can wait a week and have another three sets to choose from.

    • It isn't inadvertent, mate. That's Bungie's design philosophy. They believe a rotating meta game keeps people interested and keeps them playing. They opt for that tactic instead of trying to actually Balance it all. Personally I disagree with their tactic. It is frustrating to me. But there it is.

      • Ahh.... I see you mistake. You think this is a competitive game? Mate it's a casual game I know people treat it as bf, cod, & csgo... but it's not. Bungie stated they imagined people would only be putting between 1-3 hours into this game a day not 4-8 like some do. This Game is built around content and in pvp your content is as follows maps, guns, sub class, and perks. The reason it can't and won't be balanced is because when you change the meta you change the content this is what the gaming industry does it's recycled content. Now that your legendary hand canon isn't as good please spend 20+ hour to get the scout you like.... oops blanket nerf incoming have fun looking for that pulse rifle! This is a casual game not competitive and unfortunately it never will nor can it. And that's why they will keep changing the meta. I get your argument but you are asking for them to do something that is not in their business plans bud sorry.

        • Its too late for me IMO. They blew it with the 6/14 patch. Unless Jon Wisniewski is officially fired, I think I'll stay away from RoI.

You don't get the point of the meta. This is a loot based game. In order to extend gameplay and get you to play more, they change the meta to get you farm the game. That is why it is changed. It is not to strive for any balance. If every gun had it's purpose, was balanced and only the map or event changed your weapon selection then Destiny would only need about 30 weapons. That's what balance is, kind of like Halo. There would be no reason to farm PvE or PvP other than level. Farming for a weapon that works the same but looks different is not enough of an incentive to farm. You farm for that God roll within the meta, that's why players put in thousands of hours. You remove that from the game and you will lose most of it's players, or at least greatly reduce playtime.

Exhumed is good for trials shotgunning

              • There will always be a rotating meta in PVP. If there wasn't there would be 1 or 2 loadouts that everyone would use forever. Boring. Rotating meta allows for a (somewhat) continuous search for what works best. Yes there is some frustration along the way but that's part of what makes the game challenging.
