Why should I (or anyone) support BLM?

I don't understand the nature of the BLM movement. It appears inherently divisive, and there don't appear to be any consistent, solid arguments that they put forth. As far as I can tell, it's a highly decentralized movement that contains ideas ranging from egalitarianism to straight-up supremacy. BLM appears to be disorganized, but its existence still rests on some sort of moral outrage. In that regard, it is similar to the libertarian movement, or at least certain strains of it. Now, when I discuss a political topic, I construct a case using moral reasoning and a fair bit of evidence. When all the facts are in order in a discussion, you boil it down to principles, which is where you find ideological rifts. For example, a progressive and I might agree on the definition of anti-discrimination laws, but when we look at the morality (or lack thereof) behind them, we'll come to completely different conclusions. (We haven't forgotten about BLM. I'm getting there.) My goal in a discussion (most of them, anyways) is to present my case and defend it. Presumably the other person will do the same thing. I argue my case, and I provide my evidence. It's up to me to change the other person's mind, or to at least show that there's reasoning behind my position. I don't expect most people to drop their preconceptions and say, "Hey, those libertarians and voluntarists are on to something." It takes discussion to change minds. Right. So we come back to BLM. I don't expect people to happily and blindly support my movement. It wouldn't make sense for BLM to expect any differently. I understand that BLM supporters, apologists, or what-have-you aren't a majority here, but I'm sure there at least a few. Convince me (and by extension, others). Why should people support BLM? If it truly isn't a divisive movement, then it would seek to gain support by presenting its case. I have yet to see that case.

    • Stopped reading when you said you wanted to change people's mind. In case you haven't noticed, its impossible to change someone's views across the internet.

    • I agree with how police brutality needs to be addressed as a serious problem.
That doesn't mean I'm anti cop or approve of the violent methods of some of their members though.
• All I can say is all lives do matter. But right now our black people need help and we should give it to them. We are all American . We are all human beings. We breathe , live, and die the same. (Obviously there are differences thats not the point) I never had nothing against black people. They are my friends and my enemies just as everyone else can and has been before. What's going on in this country and the world right now is terrible. The world is going to shit and there is nothing we can do as individuals. Unless the entire nation stands up for our people and fights the government and those that bring us down, nothing will change. I hate to say this but agent Smith was right all along.

    • I've probably said it about a thousand times, but, BLM is a regressive movement because it promotes racial tensions by perpetuating an "us vs. them" attitude.

      • BLM as a movement is great but the execution has been horrible. We can't as a people repeat violence to officers because we are been killed. MLK didn't die for this shit

You have yet to see that case because you do not look... It's not one movement. Once you realize that you'll understand.

          • Don't give a fùçk about BLM. They're egotistical elitists. Support ALM because BLM makes it sound like white lives have no value. Idk why people are angry about ALM, its literally what they wanted and more.

            • I have nothing to gain from supporting blm But i do it anyways because i believe excessive force is used way too often. Unloading is not part of their job description. Now before you start about that part Calls for higher standards among police demonstrations have been around for years much before BLM was a thing. They were occasionally heard with the implementation of tazers/dashcams/beanbag rounds. The only difference now is someone saw a tweet, exploded it all over the news media, and gave it power. If amything it is a louder mouth piece for those who wanted more accountability in the police force for years. But the name makes it easier to "ignore" anti police protesters that have been around for decades

I don't think it's a matter of support or non support. Personally after watching how poorly the movement has been lead and all the negative impacts stemming from that single thing, I think it's not accomplishing it's stated goal. That being said I don't think you have to support the movement to support seeing wrongful deaths at the hands of officers be addressed. And I also don't think addressing that issue means being anti cop and not supporting our police force who do a good job. It's individuals who are to blame, and I regularly see people both for and against BLM who commit the hypocrisy they accuse the other of regularly. Whether it be lumping all cops together with one man who betrays his badge, or lumping every protestor together with a person who behaves reprehensibly.
