Red Dead Redemption did not see the dramatic increase some gaming sites reported. It's sales increased on Amazon, but in the tens and not the thousands. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/07/no-red-dead-redemption-sales-probably-arent-up-6000/ Evolve going free really looks like a success story. According to Steam Charts, the peak player count on Steam went from 234 to 51,099, higher than the peak at launch. And I would qualify this a success except the game has been a bargain bin item for months. It's pretty clear players don't want to spend any money on this game, and now the developer is asking freeloaders to spend money on micro-transactions. I suppose they have nothing to lose if they are wrong. The real test for old games will be the Skyrim remaster on consoles. It is a legitimately old game that most people played and it is selling for a premium $60. I don't think it will be a hot seller. Edit: Is Skyrim legitimately old? Other games released in 2011 include Batman: Arkham City, L.A. Noire, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Saints Row: The Third, Dark Souls, Duke Nukem Forever, and Homefront. Just a year earlier, Bungie released Halo: Reach. What do you think?
