Does this sound like overkill to you?

I'm 15 and about to be a sophomore, but my parents treat me like a kindergartner. They make me leave my phone outside in the living room so I won't use it on school days and they give me two hours each weekend or vacation day to use any type of electronic, meaning I get two hours to either watch YouTube or use my PS4, which I KNOW is -blam!-ing stupid. If you agree that these rules are ridiculous, how do you propose that I get my parents to loosen up?

  • This is exactly what my wife and I do with our 10 and 7 year old so I know where they are coming from. That being said, you are older and as long as you show maturity and responsibility then I see no problems increasing that time limit. However, I don't know you or your behavior, so my advice to you is to have a civilized talk with your parents and see what happens. If they can't have that kind of talk, then you might have to wait until you can move out like I did when I was younger. Though, I did join the Army to serve my country at age 17. What kind of mature adult will you choose to become?
