Does this sound like overkill to you?

I'm 15 and about to be a sophomore, but my parents treat me like a kindergartner. They make me leave my phone outside in the living room so I won't use it on school days and they give me two hours each weekend or vacation day to use any type of electronic, meaning I get two hours to either watch YouTube or use my PS4, which I KNOW is -blam!-ing stupid. If you agree that these rules are ridiculous, how do you propose that I get my parents to loosen up?

  • Perhaps not applicable for you but here's what worked for my little brother: 1. I suggest first being the utmost picture of responsibility. This means, don't wait for your parents to tell you to do homework, clean your room, do chores, etc. Do these things of your own volition and do them right. 2. After you've proven that you're willing to demonstrate the values that they've taught you, ask them one evening if you can talk to them. Calmly present your point of view: you'd like to be able to spend some more time doing what you enjoy. Ask if you guys can come to an agreement to gain some additional freedom. Perhaps maintaining a certain GPA+ joining a gym or club or whatever in exchange for more leisure time. 3. If they agree, respect the terms of the deal. 3.5 If they do not agree, respect that too. You'll be an adult far too soon for your liking, I assure you. When you have your own roof that you pay for, you can play COD until your eyes bleed.
