You seem to understand a lot about the story, so I'll ask a question. What exactly was the the "darkness" that managed to destroy everything from the golden age?

It was the queen of final shapes(the darkness in some physical form) and her servants....the hive and Vex were present during the collapse and I believe Crota lost his physical form fighting the traveler and humanity..i think xur saying the traveler has a dark mirror is very literal...like a bigger evil version of the traveler

It was either Oryx or "the Woman" that Praedys saw in his time captured in the Vault. He said she was darkness herself wearing a Fallen Captian Skin

The Hive Worm Gods?

Well from what we could gather about oryx in the book of sorrows, oryx was probably the "darkness" that fought the traveler. Oryx isn't the darkness he's just the darkness' personal b****.

Edited by Razzupaltuff: 6/17/2016 4:30:18 PMI think it is the effect or physical-ontologic power Oryx created to consume and corrupt the "light" that was driving the Traveller and is now driving the guardians. The grimoire around Oryx is talking about an ontological weapon at some point, meaning a weapon that is targetted at the existence of something, its "being there". Bungie is tapping into the supernatural and occult here, so this is a bit hard to figure and understand. You are actually having the supernatural making an entrance in Destiny here. The Traveller seems to have been using some "ontological" effect on its surroundings as well, i.e. he could create something from apparently "nothing" (or a mysterious source of energy/matter).

No one knows for sure. Even in the grimoire, certain characters allude to what they hypothesize the darkness could be. One thinks it's a plague of literal darkness, one thinks it's the greedy enemies we fight that are after the Travelers power, one thinks this, one thinks that, etc. It's like a legend. Of course, the Light and Dark are metaphors for good and evil, so I think all the characters call anything evil or enemy "darkness".

Then could it possibly be Siva? If the human race created a technology that could have overthrown themselves? That's seems like a re occurring theme between sci Fi movies like matrix or irobot

Eh, I think that would be a little bit direct. That would mean henceforth, SIVA would be the focus of everything else we do in the future expansions. Doesn't make sense to me. I personally think that the Light and the Darkness are just natural but spiritual forces of cosmic balance. For example, the awoken, the humans, the guardians... we are all beings that follow ORDER and LAW, goodness and peace and all that. Whereas Hive and other forces are more war oriented, following CHAOS and WAR. To me this is the manifestion of LIGHT and DARK. Oryx's knowledge of the deep, our wielding of the Light, etc. The big mystery is still there though. We can see what light and darkness are, (yin and yang, good and evil, etc). If it was just legend and enemies and superstition, that's one thing. But you've got the Traveler. What is it? What controls it? Who 'are' the architects? The opposite of the worm gods? Or the same? The presence of the Traveler itself leads us to think that there is some being, entity, or force that we don't understand controlling the pieces on the board.
