May want to give the file system maintenance a shot. Could be glitching during write operations. Pretty common error in PlayStations for the last 3 generations. Forget exactly how big the patch was, but generally you plan for at least 1.5 times the download for unpacking and processing/copying the files. Ideally you would want at least 2x though, just in case.

  • Varies by console. On the PS consoles you do a full power off and then hold the power button until you hear certain beeping patterns to get to a maintenance menu. Should be able to Google a guide for how to get into your specific console's maintenance menu.

Depends on the console. It can very from family and version. Sorry to keep saying such things, but your profile is not public or somethung--can't tell if you are XBL or PSN, and I've never used XBox...have enough Microsoft in my life already (used to work on systems). If you google a guide for your console, it should be explained there. Basically, you may see options for things like file system repair and database repair routines. Be aware tjerebwikk also be options for wiping the system and resetting to defaults. File system routines will usually just check for and repair errors in the file system like crosslinked files, mismatched entries in the index or journal log, committing scheduled change logs and truncating the logs, etc. Basically like a disk check in Winblows. It basically just corrects mistakes, so you generally don't risk data loss unless there is corruption in data that can't be repaired. Database repair will basically delete a lot of data and scan your installs and rebuild the entries. Want to avoid that if possible as you may loose a lot of user data like custom play lists, player messages, etc.--it is looking to rebuild and synch the databases to what is installed.

Haven't had to do my ps4 yet, so not sure just what to expect honestly. Done it a lot on the PS3 though. Used mcboot on PS2 so always pulled the drive and did it through the PC. On PS3, database option can loose some user data, file system does not. Would expect the same for PS4.

Uggh. Hope you aren't just coming back and trying to get TTK as well...that bugger was like 19Gig on it's own. Is it still saying you are out if space? Might be something to run up the flagpole on Sony forums, especially if you are getting an alpha/numeric code from the console. In the past deleting the failed download and running file repair usually solved it for my PS3. Sometimes I would have to delete a couple times, but it would eventually get through. One of my biggest gripes about the PS...it does NOT handle network data errors worth a flip. On that note...there is something you could try with your network settings. Something a TWC tech had me do a while back to my PS3 that seemed to resolve my disconnects to PSN. Manually configure your PS4 network settings if you haven't already (custom, not easy). May want to bind your current IP in the router's DHCP menus first so it doesn't give the IP to something else and cause a conflict. As you go through manual config you hit a page about Max Transmission Unit (MTU). It may be set to Auto, 1500, or 1492 (typical options used by ISP's). Manually set it to 1400 or 1392 (100 less than the norms). This may help avoid a fragmentation problem that could crop up from an anti-DDoS measure somewhere along your route.

  •
Thanks but I have no idea what you just said 😂😂 way too complicated
Blarrgh...stuck at work with just this cheesy Tracfone android wannabe "smart" phone. Can't walk through the menus and such to make sure of the accuracy. If an error occurs during the download, PS sometimes just freaks out. Any future attempts to overwrite the corrupted file will fail. So you need to pull up the downloads and delete the failed download. Don't try to restart or continue it...delete it. If you weren't deleting it, that may have been the root of the problem. My bad for not mentioning this earlier. Sort of second nature to me, so it slipped past me. Sometimes the file system gets knackered, so even deleting the file doesn't cut it and you need to run the maintenance too. Now there is the issue of network errors. Lots of things can cause problems. One odd one is packet fragmentation. There is cap on how big a frame of data can be sent at a time. That MTU setting tells the PS4 that cap. A DDoS attack is a method of flooding a server or network with connection requests with altered packets that stall the handshake process...eventually filling the pool of available slots for pending connections, forcing that device to deny any more connections. It is typically involves pulling in systems from all over the place to flood the device at once. Hence the name: Distributed Denial of Service attack (DDoS). To combat that, admins may set a nonstandard frame size cap mid-routebl on the routers in order to reduce the threat. If a frame is too big it gets kicked back to the client to get broken into smaller frames. Since the packets are mangled to not return to the original client, those basically get dropped in transit before they can severely impact the server. The Auto MTU setting probes the network to hunt for the proper cap to use, but doesn't always get the proper one. A while back a TWC take noticed I was getting fragmentation on my PS3 traffic so we started testing it manually...we eventually narrowed it down to 1400 being a sweet spot for my routing. To set this you have to go into the network setting screens of the PS4 and manually set them. Customers...gtg. Try to check in later.

  • Well I changed to 1400 but I get a message saying this router may not support IP fragmentation idk what that is. And u the want me to delete the download and retry it ?

  • That typically is just a notice when you manually set the value...don't want to set it higher then the networks allow, which is why I suggested trying to lower it. Without being able to ping the particular server with a do not fragment flag to find the exact cap, you have to take the try it and see what happens approach. Sometimes the download just tanks because of network errors, and you just have to keep deleting and retrying. It took like 6 tries to get the DLC for The Last of Us on my PS3 when it first hit the wire...finally got it in the middle of the night when fewer people were on. Might be time to pull in the ISP to watch what is going on with the data while you try to download it. Might be something going on in the network that needs tweaking/refreshing. If you have a separate router and modem, power it down as well as your PS4. Leave the modem on. Boot the router and once it looks like it has finished booting, bring up the PS4 and try once more. If it fails again that time, stop trying and call the ISP. This way the logs will show a snapshot of how everything is connecting and trying to pull the download in one block and easier to look at.

  • Ok I retried the download 30 times and it didn't work. Also my internet is connected by LAN and isn't wifi. This shouldn't be an issue as all other updates download fine like one today was fine I don't understand

Wish this was PC so I could snoop around and maybe find an address for the update server so we could run some tests directly to it. Hopefully it is mirrored on Akamai or something like that so it isn't the server itself...just don't have an easy way to check it (my system already patched, so can't snoop my packets to try to find it). Your ISP may be your best advocate for tracking it down if it indeed is a network based issue. Hate to kick it to third party so quickly...but in the interest of time, they are probably gonna be the fastest ones to get you some sort of technical response right now. ISP phone support can be kinda iffy with this kind of thing though...as you will need specifically Tier3 support to help investigate it properly. The help desk guys that typically answer will have to go through a checklist of resetting everything first, possibly sending a tech on site, blah blah blah. You may be better off trying their forums or twitter/facebook accounts if you can. You may find a listing for your ISP over at the companies page on downdetector.com. They often provide online support links you can use. May be worth putting something up in the PSN forums as well, especially if you are getting an error code from the PS4...it will be mostly numbers.

  • Thanks. There's no error message on ps4 and the company isn't on the list. I'm assuming I was looking for my internet company? Also what's ISP I'm a bit confused how I can resolve this

  • Internet Service Provider. AT&T, Comcast, Brighthouse, Atlantic Bell, etc. Some last mile ISP's are actually part of a bigger brand, so it can be a bit confusing figuring out exactly who to contact. Who do you purchase your internet from? I might be able to track down their registrar details to get some contact info for you if it is a one-off provider.

Was just looking at some tweets and maps for another thread, and saw complaints ramping up in parts of Germany and the UK. Dusseldorf/Manheim and London/Manchester regions look like they may be running into some trouble. There may be something rearing it's ugly head for you guys not isolated to Bungie's stuff. People getting knocked out of things and not able to sign their consoles back in and such.

ahhh... may be O2/Orange. There is a trick of sorts for them that may have an impact with some things. May need to make yourself pingable. A lot of tweaking over on your side of the pond trying to fight off DDoS, and some services may try to discover the best MTU back to you, and if you aren't pingable it can cause weird issues. There was a blog up about it like a year ago or so. Remember reading about it back when I was still playing FFXIV. If you can get into your router settings, look for a page about your firewall. There may be an option in there about responding to ping that you can enable. It isn't a sure thing, and may not apply here, but it was a known issue for O2/Orange customers at one time. May still be in effect. There is a public demo router for my Asus model that I will find a link to so you can have an example of what to look for: http://event.asus.com/2012/nw/dummy_ui/en/Advanced_BasicFirewall_Content.html Notice the last item in the list with a yes/no option that says "Respond Ping Request from WAN". Typically it will default to being disabled. In this case, set it to "yes" and apply so it can be pinged. There has been speculation in the past with other games that being pingable can help with better connection-based matchmaking and such, but hard to say without knowing more about the way these guys match people up. Who knows, maybe it will help on that front as well?

  • Just saw something in another thread. ViktorCode was having issues with PSN when using Google's DNS. If you are using them, may want to try setting it to your ISP's DNS to see if it improves. Man these things can be such a pain sometimes.

  • It's all good. It's always a process of trial and error, eliminating things you've seen cause problems in the past. So many possible causes. You just don't know until you stumble on it by chance sometimes. Glad it got sorted. Hopefully things go smoothly from here out. Good luck out there guardian.

  • well I changed this setting the Respond Ping Request from WAN thing and I deleted and retried the update and nothing. is this to do with that my ps4 is not connected to the router wirelessly or should that not be a problem? or do I need to retry the update many times again?
