I really don't have an opinion but how do the last gen systems impact the users on the current generation systems?

  • As far as I understand, new generation devices do provide better hardware than old generation devices. Better meaning e.g. more memory, better graphics, bigger storage. Agreed? From a business case perspective, a game studio has to decide to either not support old gen, or to support old gen and new gen in parallel. Usually, and with regards to sales figures, they decide to support the latter. Now, knowing that they will support old and new gen, they have to make another decision. They need to decide whether to have a single code base or two separate ones. A single code base which supports old and new gen will have to use the maximum capacity of what the old gen provides and, hence, not make use of any advanced feature of the new gen. Otherwise, it would not run on old gen. Two separate code bases would mean to maintain two different dev teams - one for old gen and one for new gen. Usually, the latter is not very attractive from a business case perspective. So most studios, if not all, decide to support older and newer platforms, but limit the features to what the oldest platform is capable of.

  • Everyone thinks they do but they really don't. The last gen consoles are the scapegoat for all the bad shit that the expansions gave us.

  • Pretty much remember the whole vault space thing aren't we at our 2nd space increase. I love how the "time to upgrade people" think that better hardware will make up for shitty programming.

  • It's the same as the PC market, computer hardware is years ahead of current-gen consoles but because the big three spend more money having games on their systems since the PC market isn't technically owned by anyone. It suffers greatly in terms of game quality because devs already got a paycheck for the console versions.

  • Old systems can't run and operate as fast as current gen so to keep things even they need to hold back on some features like how many mobs can be spawned without impacting game play ..... now that won't be a problem

  • I've heard basically developers have to hold back on some capabilities BC old gen can't run the same as new gen. So basically we miss out on cool stuff

  • That's simply not true, we already have evidence of last gen consoles restricting current gen consoles with the whole Vault Space issue.

  • And magically the vaultspace increased, TWICE!

  • It wasn't "magical" they initially had to find workarounds because the old consoles didn't have the MEMORY to increase the vault space.

  • https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/12773/7_Destiny-Update---04142015 Old consoles cannot compare stats in vault because it would take up too much memory to do so.......

  • Actually old gen can compare in vault

  • The increase in vault space was delayed. That ALONE is enough reason for me to say "bye bye" to old gen.
