I still play zelda a link to the past, castlev 1 and 3, borderlands two, pokemon, ect ect. Most old school gamers if handed the controller while metroid is being played will take it and play, or Mario kart, ect. We have games that not only have lasted two years but decades, pokemon itself is on twenty years, zelda one came out in the 80s and is still regarded as one of the best games ever made creating a mold that even games today still use. Final fantasy 4 is regarded as one of the best final fantasy games (was originally called two in america.) I can list games all day, legends amongst other games that people today still play. Yet it's more to say that games now adays don't hold as much weight without leaning towards dlc, a gimmicky way for games designers to give us half a game and make us pay over and over again to gain a full experience. Dlc should not be life support but instead away to add to the experience. Imagine if the above nes and super nes games where able to have made dlc. The games are already legends, but just imagine how much further they could have drawn us into their fantasy world.

As for online games because you did get specific. Pokemon (is online), borderland, castlev HD, black ops 2 (it had been two years after all dlcs), super smash bro (wii), black ops one (name the last dlc, it's been far over two years). Hell pong is online now and is still played by people, even checkers chess ect are online games though feel we should exclude board games. Champions was a pretty fun online game, and it did not use dlc (basically like a wow game yet it was on ps2) the list still goes on even if I use online, some of these games like smash bro still have tournaments and never get old. Some have used dlc, yet it's been well over two years sense that dlc was released and people still play it. If the game is good it will surpass the ages without more content added, this is why I pointed out the nes games in my first post (which for some illogical reason you exclude for not being online, yet not being online would actually hinder it even more. But it barley mattered because I can name many many games lol.) Dreamcast online games lasted for....a very very long time fwi.
