Some of the trials bounties count towards completing shaxx's nightfall bounty, that's probably why it auto completed.

There's more to it than that. I've never done trials but i have competed IB bounties in my inventory and the first week i did shaxx bounties it auto completed for me. Second week it counted 4 complete and i just had to do one bounty. This week i actually had to do all 5 bounties. Not sure what is making them auto compete exactly but nothing changed with my bounty inventory in those 3 weeks.
