I don't get it, you're mad because you can't harass people in a PM?

  • No, I haven't harassed anyone. As I now see it, the ninja's haven't cared enough to apply the CoC to group walls until very recently.

Why...There shouldn't be an issue with the CoC being enforced in PMs unless you're breaking the CoC in PMs.

  • I didn't see your edited content until just now. I'm sorry if you're unwilling to read all this, but you'll gain the utmost understanding of my position with a careful examination. My biggest problem is not due to my own infractions, but it is due to the banning of some close friends and the seeming favoritism behind the obvious ignorance of other's misdeeds. The CoC should be and has been enforced to an excellent degree for a very long time. PM banning, specifically, has never previously been a concept that I was aware of. Furthermore, sections of ambiguity behind the current Code of Conduct has lead to resentment and cynical violations to prove just how simultaneously restricting and enabling this system has become. Specifically, "necro-bumping," the age-old tradition of reviving old posts is now a dead art due to Bungie's restrictions. The implementation of this "necro-bump" ban has also prevented the survival of a specific user's daily greetings, which is something that most of this site still grieves over. This same user was effectively banned from the public for no other reason than Bungie's policy of "Destiny players only." On the contrary, political and religious posts, RP posts, and unwanted spam posts are enabled to pollute large sections of this website. Many private groups on this site are founded with varying degrees of frustration with the public forums, and the fact that the public forums and its CoC are now invading them is mildly perturbing. Don't get me wrong, we aren't opening the gates of hell in these groups, as some have done. Those who exist as unruly members of this site are quickly eradicated with the almighty banhammer. Most groups seek to provide a refuge from the scrutiny of the public's eye at the harm of absolutely no one. For example, you can't post the word "cockmongerer" in the public forums without warranting a ban. However, the mere mention of this word has no effect on anybody directly and has no reason not to exist in a private group. A further case closer to your understanding may be made with the example of a group that seeks to have deep discussions on various topics. Deep discussions such as the one presented in this post may not belong in the public's eye due to the hoi polloi's incapability to think critically and coherently (as exemplified in other users in this post), but they definitely belong behind closed doors in the company of thinkers. Using this same logic, ruffians without malicious intent do not belong on the public forum, but should exist behind closed doors. As soon as somebody seeks to harm somebody or they step too out of line, they face the power of that group's subset of the Code of Conduct. It's very similar to the current system of the United States to have federal laws presiding over state laws while state laws still have power. By extending the CoC in full force into the private group system, Bungie has effectively nulled any group's say in their moderation. Users can now effortlessly and anonymously report and incriminate any user no matter how small his infraction is. This has resulted in the police state of the private groups today. Many times, these infractions are so petty that any ban is overkilling the easier solution of a gentle consolation. If users were warned as they are in public forums that they are endangering their account with their posting habits and told exactly what they've done wrong and how to fix it, no misunderstandings or infractions would unwittingly occur. Hence is the reason for my original post. In the moment I posted it, I was beyond my wit in frustration and cynicism. I now see that I overreacted, but I still hold true to my principles of privacy.

  • It was just "why." Regardless, I don't know why I need to persuade you to read my response.
