I'd love to see someone post a great caster or hybrid build that's totally effective in PVP. In previous soulsborne games I always gravitated toward hybrids, myself, but in DS3 I just haven't found them to be all that great. Really seems like quality builds, maybe only using magic for buffs is the way to go. Either that, or fully commit to a caster type build. Lots of builds can be viable for PVE, and playing whatever is the most fun is usually best, but PVP is another matter. In PVP, you're in direct competition with others, and the goal is to win. Skill will almost always best a great weapon or build, but skill isn't everything, because some things just put you at such a strong disadvantage. I've run across a wide variety of opponents in PVP, but the ones I've faced who appeared to be full hybrids or casters were noticeably easier to beat. Would be awesome to see someone who's found a way to make it work as well as a melee/quality type thing.

I think a lot of that comes down to which weapon you use. As an example, a hybrid build with a weapon that can stagger versus a guy using something that can't the odds would generally be in favor of the one who can stagger. I'm going to try to find a suitable weapon that can still stagger without being incredibly slow. I also plan on practicing my parry skills. Edit: as far as full caster builds, there need to be more items that shorten the cast time even further, or items that modify the tracking/speed/impact of the spells, because right now, casters are insanely vulnerable if they use any sort of spell with less than 100ft between them.

Yeah, I'd add that the speed at which one can flask and the faster pace of the game, in general, puts casters at a particular disadvantage. It's very easy to simply dodge spells or flask if you really need to, then close the gap on the caster and mow them down in about 3 good hits, especially when nearly every 2nd or 3rd hit it or so with even a faster, smaller straight sword or the like will break a player's guard or stagger for a split sec.
