Bungie, please, please, please remove (or change) the Trickle modifier!

Destiny has 'pillars' that make its gameplay fun, just like back in the day the original Halo was praised for its 3 pillars of: guns, melee & grenades, Destiny has: guns, melee, grenades & supers. The trickle modifier that is used for Prison of Elders and Nightfalls is a horrible modifier that needs to either be drastically changed or totally removed from the game because it essentially cuts out way too many of those pillars that make the game fun. Destiny is designed around equipping gear and choosing special abilities to make cool and powerful combos that help you play in fun and unique ways. Trickle makes all those perks and combos more or less pointless because everything takes so long to charge (even with Intellect, Discipline or Strength maxed out and perks in play that help charge stuff faster), that there's not really any point in trying to optimize for anything. I understand that the whole point of modifiers in PoE and Nightfall is to both make things a bit more challenging and to get you to play a little differently than you might normally do, however trickle takes things to far and leaves you essentially with: 'shooting' as the only pillar left to play with, which makes the whole experience simply not fun. So please Bungie, if you want to raise the challenge of a mode, stick with modifiers that boost the enemy's damage resistance or potency. And if you want to get people to play a mode with a different approach then they normally might, stick with using modifiers that limit specific abilities (i.e. just your melee charge or just your grenade charge or just your super charge). Because if you at least did that then players would still be able to switch out their gear to focus on the other game design pillars not affected by the modifier. As opposed to trickle, with just leaves you without any options except: shoot stuff and be bored. Thanks for reading and love the game overall!

  • Some modifiers are negated simply by your weapon and armor choices. Bad Juju, Zhalo, Telesto are all great choices whenever this modifier is active. In addition, weapons with perks like grenadier and army of one ignore the modifier. Armor perks that decrease cool downs on orb pick up also ignore the modifier as the effects of orbs are unchanged. Once you start chaining supers, you won't even realize that it is on. The only class that is really hurt by this is sunsinger. So just don't use it. Any other armor piece or perk that creates orbs is also useful. Play to the modifier, don't let it play you ;).

  • The point isn't that you might as well not use your abilities; the point of Trickle is to make you more conservative with your use of them. Let's say usually you might use your grenade as soon as it charges to take out two or three enemies, right? The idea behind Trickle is to force you to carefully pick the right time to use your grenade, so as to get the best use out of it. If you were complaining about a modifier that just completely removes the use of abilities, full stop, then you would be making more sense.

    • The trickle modifier is brutal, but what's the point in playing if the challenge of PvE gets nerfed?

There are numerous ways to compensate for or even totally bypass Trickle. You can make your build around it or you can just use your abilities more carefully, as is the intention of the modifier.
Since you bring up Halo, I don't think the Famine skull was meant to make the game more fun.
• I agree trickle is flat out the "anti-fun' modifier. I'd be on board if it made up for it by buffing players in some other way (similar to how exposure cuts off recovery but buffs total health). Maybe trickle could buff gun damage? Or increase super charge rate to make up for the lack of grenade/melee? Or actually offer some incentive to make players go "well this seems interesting." as opposed to the current "We hate you" notice the trickle modifier seems to exist as.
