I normally try to be civil on posts such as this, but I don't have time at the moment. So I'll keep it short and unsweet :) Lighthouse is not for everyone. It is for the best of the best. The Men In Black of the crucible. It is a crown that only the very skilled should be able to wear. And Bungie has stated this many times. It isn't meant as a reward for any low skilled scrub off the street. Are you not skilled enough to get to Lighthouse? Then you don't deserve to wear the crown. Git gud, earn the crown. Then you can (civilly) look down on all the Guardians who are not worthy of the Lighthouse. Good night. #TitanMasterRace

It is endgame in a videogame- not the Olympics. OP's suggestion to return to Year 1 matchmaking (pure connection, not based on card) opens up this game mode without punishing the top players. Everyone can see how sweaty you are by looking up your stats, still- it just makes it so enjoying this gamemode is a little more possible for above-average players, not just top-level PvP streamers and the dorito-encrusted sweatballs. #YouarenottheMasterRace Edit because of autocorrect

  • Trials is Destiny's equivalent of the Olympics. #TitanMasterRace

  • Trials is the PvP equivalent to the Raid. The difference is that in PvE, if I beat Oryx, it doesn't mean you can't- in Trials, it does mean that only a small portion of even the best players get a chance to go flawless each time- this artificially extends gameplay and creates an unneeded barrier for many players. This makes the VIDEOGAME less enjoyable, and it is bad for the life of the game to have endgame content that your average player doesn't want to do. OP's suggestion helps alleviate that issue without punishing anyone- it opens up a game-type for more players, making the experience more enjoyable. That is good.

  • Again, it's not for the "average player". Bungie has said it is for only the crucible gods. #TitanMasterRace

  • That is a stupid decision on their part, because it functionally walls off a fun gametype for everyone but the elite of the elite. I not saying it should be stupid easy to get to the lighthouse- I just saying that removing the card-based criteria for matchmaking, and making it pure connection would make it more enjoyable for more players, increase the popularity of it, and make the entire game mode less toxic. All of these things would be good for the game- sticking to this idea of making a game mode ultra exclusive for no other reason than it "should be" is not good for the game and it demonstrates a lack of design foresight. Making your game feel like a significant portion of the playerbase is not welcome is a poor design choice, and is ultimately bad for everyone. That is why I am advocating a change.

  • I think it's good for the game, and I also think you will understand once you finally earn Flawless. But, let's agree to disagree :) #TitanMasterRace

  • I've been flawless several times, there, sweetheart. Not the issue. What I can say is that it was much easier Year 1 when I would more consistently face normal players. I don think that cheapened flawless- in fact, I think it is cheaper now because of the huge market that exists for carries. I'm not against difficult or exclusive- I'm against ridiculous. It used to be difficult and exclusive, now it is ridiculous, and that is what I think is bad. If you think it is fine- that's great. I like hearing arguments on the other side. I'm just not convinced. I am happy to keep bumping the thread, though, because ultimately visibility is what this is about...

  • It was better in year one: You had the absolute best connections destiny could muster. They were still bad at times which really says volumes about destiny connections. Your skill was matched against the destiny population and not stacked against you the further you got. I'd rather be better than the general population than be in some esports mlg nonsense at game 8. It was still challenging. Not everyone made it. 9-0 teams still went back in to stomp on everyone because they could. That's fine. If they want to keep scorecard based matchmaking past 9-0 for the scarab heart then so be it. But goddamnit Y1 trials was actually fun You had no idea if you were going to get stomped in game one or if you were going to see "____was eliminated in the trials of osiris" three times on your game nine.

  • Like I said, it's been for the best of the best. It's supposed to be sweaty. It's meant for the 1%, not for the scrubs off the street. #TitanMasterRace

  • Add SBMM and it'll still be the best vs the best. It just won't be the best vs average Joe who got lucky enough to win a few games.

  • Very bad idea. Average Joe's should have to earn that crown, just like a sweaty player has to. If you can't beat a sweaty player, then you don't deserve the crown. That being said, why are you replying to a 2 month old post... #TitanMasterRace

  • They would be earning it with the exact same difficulty as the top players. Seems to me that the best of the best just want to keep it like this so they can keep making money for carries. I'm replying to this because it's a thread that came up when I was searching for a player I just played. "Monay" who is the #1 player on Xbox. Played him on our lighthouse game and he was playing with 2 scrubs (.57 and .74 k/d). Only they weren't scrubs. They were 1.45 and 3.74 for the week. Basically, he and his friends are running other people's accounts through Trials for money. That's what happen's with the system we currently have. Then to top it all of the #1 player has the nerve to teabag. Like really?
