Trinary Star Rising Chapter 2 Part 4

“Well, s***.” Jace said. “We might as well fight him here.” I said, priming the first round in my sniper and then aiming at his head. Right before I shot Felix he shifted the position of his sword so it was held diagonally across his body causing a purple aura to flow out from his sword and cover the front of his body. I fired and the only difference I noticed was a slight ripple in the energy in front of his head. “You missed.” Ashley commented. “He blocked it with his sword.” I replied, sending her the last few seconds of the feed from my helmet camera. “What’s the element on your sniper?” Ashley asked. “Solar, why do you ask?” I questioned. “Trying an experiment.” Ashley answered, taking a shot at Felix with her Void sniper and hitting him in the left shoulder. He staggered back dropping the shield. Before I could follow up with a shot of my own Felix rolled back into the forest. “I wish you had told me that you were trying that, we could’ve won.” I said. “I actually didn’t think that would work.” Ashley replied. “Well he knows we're here so we might as well fight.” I said, jumping off the hill and blinking at the last second to break my fall. A few seconds later Ashley and Sarah landed next to me. “I’m going to make a suggestion.” Apex said over our comms. “What is it?” Sarah asked. “Since Jace and Holly and I aren’t getting anything from our scans I wouldn’t get to close to the forest. Felix could have tethers set up anywhere in there. “Well if we can’t chase him lets flush him out!” I exclaimed, tossing an arcbolt grenade in the direction that Felix had run off in, watched it scan the area around it and then fizzle away. “Next time you try to flush someone out use a grenade that explodes.” Sarah said, forming a magnetic grenade and tossing it in another direction and getting bits of foliage and a chunk of wood thrown back at her, causing her to fall backwards onto the grassy clearing. “You forgot the last part. You’re supposed to move after you throw the grenade.” I teased, dodging the piece of wood Sarah chucked at me. “Amateurs.” Ashley stated, throwing a grenade. The grenade exploded into Solar energy covering the part of the forest in fire, a few seconds later the fire went out. “That’s strange, there should still be fire.” Ashley said, confused. “That was a solar grenade right?” I asked. “It was.” Ashley said, tossing another solar grenade and having the same thing happen. “Hey what are you guys doing?” Someone shouted behind us. I blinked away, turning around while aiming down the scope of my sniper and lining it up on the head of the Warlock that spoke. I pulled the trigger and nothing happened. I noticed at the bottom of my HUD it said “Ghost Weapon Lock”. “Jace why did you lock my sniper?” I asked pulling out my handcannon. “Because they’re not a target.” Jace replied as 2 more Warlocks appeared from behind the hill. “We were trying to flush out Felix.” Ashley said to the Warlocks. “Wait, please tell me you weren’t using Solar grenades for it were you?” The Warlock on the right asked. “What do you think?” Ashley responded, pointing to the scorched trees and plants. Suddenly, we heard the sound of a roaring fire in the trees to our left. “Son of a…” The first Warlock said, cut off by the raging flames that came out of the forest, consuming him and his teammates. As if commanded the fire dissipated leaving behind the Warlocks’ white ghosts. They all simultaneously self-revived as an arrow made of void energy landed between them, sending lines of void energy into each Warlock, which extinguished their flames. As the Warlocks struggled within the tether Felix walked out of the burned part of the forest, hand cannon in one hand and a knife in the other. The knife was slightly bigger than the normal Hunter knife but the biggest difference was that back half of the knife near the hilt was missing, instead there was a crystal that was split into 3 parts each, glowing with a different elemental energy. Strapped to his waist were a pair of sheathes, one with a similar knife in it, the other one was empty. “Fall back to the hill.” I whispered to Sarah and Ashley. We walked backwards towards the hill making sure that Felix didn’t turn his attention to us, but he had the barrel of his hand cannon to the head of one of the Warlocks. After a few seconds he stabbed the Warlock he was facing and fired one shot into the unshielded Warlock. Instead of the one Warlock dying the other 2 fell over as well. “Fireteam Firestorm eliminated.” Someone announced from a hidden loudspeaker. “How did he?” I said, amazed at what I just witnessed. “I just watched the replay. I, I can’t understand how he did it.” Ashley said in awe. “Guys… I think I know who controlled the fire.” Sarah stated, pointing towards the burnt forest where Angel emerged walking towards Felix. “A few more feet to the right and I would have killed two birds with one fire wall.” Angel said, stopping next to Felix. “Good thing there's still more.” An orange glow appeared from the forest behind them. “Get behind me!” Sarah shouted, placing a Ward of Dawn around us as another raging fire appeared, going around Felix and Angel, and racing around the ward Sarah created. “I…I d…don’t know how m…m...much longer I can k…keep this ward up.” Sarah said, visibly shaking. “Ashley you need to do what ever you can to keep Sarah warm! Her temperature is dropping!” Apex shouted. Ashley started to form a solar grenade in her left hand. It flickered for a second then formed a small ball of fire in her hand which she cast down at the edge of the ward. We laid her down on the part of the hill that was inside of the ward. “Sarah you can drop the ward now.” I said, checking her vitals. “If I do that they’ll kill us.” Sarah said, moving closer to the fire. “You have ice forming on your armor.” Ashley said, engulfing her hands in fire and melting the ice on her armor. “Sarah just drop the ward! I’ll fight them alone if I have to!” I shouted. After a few seconds of thought Sarah waved her hand and the ward faded away into nothing. “I know that you just need the Hunter relic.” Felix shouted, holding it up. “So come and get it!” He pulled out a pulse rifle and started firing while Angel used a scout rifle. Before she got a second shot off we were already behind some of the boulders around the base of the hill. “Who do we target first?” Sarah asked, blind-firing at them. “Target Angel.” Ashley said immediately. “She’s doing something to stop me from using Solar energy.” “I guess I don’t get a say in this.” I joked, peeking around the corner and immediately choking on smoke. I blinked out, still coughing it out of my lungs. Looking again I saw Felix walking towards me, a knife in each hand. Looking back I saw Angel walking towards Sarah and Ashley. “You guys take Angel.” I said, pulling out my blades. “Felix is mine.” I let the Arc energy flow into my knives, charging them with the current that flowed through me as well as protected me, as I rushed forward to meet him. I tried to end the fight fast by going for a quick stab to the chest but he blocked the knife by crossing his knives, stopping mine at the hilt. Quickly I followed up with a cut towards his leg, which he rolled away from. We both knew that he had to go for a killing blow whereas I just had to make any sort of cut on his armor while I was infused with Arc energy. We traded hits, blocking each other's attacks while trying to connect with our own. Eventually I began to feel the flow of Arc energy begin to slow I knew that I had to try something else. I smashed the flat sides of my blades together, creating a explosion of sparks in front of Felix’s face. I started to flip over Felix causing him to reflexively turn towards where I should have landed. Instead, I blinked back towards where I was standing earlier and slashed at his unprotected back only to find a sword blocking both of my blades just millimeters from his back. I realized that Felix had blocked both knives by holding the hilt of his sword over his shoulder and letting the blade run diagonally across his back. “Impressive trick, I’ll give you that.” Felix said, turning around as the last bit of energy around me fizzled away. “But it’s going to take more than that to take the relic from me.” He shifted his grip on the sword and pulled at the hilt causing the sword blade to split into 2 identical blades, each with a crystal. I realized the new crystals were the same as the crystals in the knives he wielded earlier and wielded now.
