So while perusing the forums as I've been known to do looking at the various feedback, I saw that one of the posts Kabr made brought up a very fair point. In it, he explained that Elemental Damage ( mostly in regards to weapons and primaries ) really only serves to work to counteract enemies with a matching-colored shield. After giving it much thought, I realized he was right. Whilst Elemental Damage regarding subclasses have a variety of status effects like buffs, debuffs, DoT, etc, most weapons do not. So my question to all of you is: Should Elemental Weapons proc some sort of status effect on enemies? This is something other games that have elemental damage do in regards to diversity in both new and old alike. Games that are shared/world shooters such as Defiance and Warframe ( the former being defunct I think ) have weapons like this with Elemental Procs. So if Elemental Procs did exist in Destiny, what would each of the Status Afflictions in regards to Elemental Weapons actually do outside of taking down the shield of an enemy with a corresponding shield type? Here's what I came up with: • Solar Proc = Smolder - Weapons with Solar Damaging capabilities have the chance to trigger a burn effect that deals a brief DoT effect. • Arc Proc = Jolt - Weapons with Arc Damaging capabilities have the chance to trigger an effect which transmits additional damage to targets near enemy hit by this effect. ( Think Zhalo Supercell ) • Void Proc = Warp - Weapons with Void Damaging Capabilities have the chance to trigger a draining effect which briefly stops the usage of special abilities of the stricken target for a brief period of time. ( Think Shadowshot and Suppression Grenades ) It should be important to note, that when I say proc, I mean that above status effects do not always trigger but have the chance too. If this were to happen, each weapon archetype would need to be meticulously looking at to have percentage rates appropriate to say...Rate of Fire? Each Elemental Weapon would have a percentage rate regarding the chances it has to proc said matching effect. Moving on, this would also help armor diversity and perks out a lot more as well. How? Because it would allow builds and perks that could have built in resistances to Solar, Arc, and Void damage and status affects AND/OR have perks that boost the damage and status effects of weapons that do have Elemental Damage. This would no doubt increase the desire for weapons of certain rolls with Elemental Damage and effects, as well as Armor pieces. Not only that, but imagine how it could work in PVE and the ways players could creatively utilize it? ( Though I imagine it may spark controversy in PVP though.) But that's the idea of hypothetical Elemental Status Effects in a nutshell. Do you think this something BUNGIE should consider implementing? Or do you think it would offset the game's balance too much? Feedback welcomed and obliged!
