If your problem is solved by turning off the computer, logging off, etc, then that isn't cyber bullying - that's just someone being a dick to you.

Can somebody tell me how something someone says to you on the Internet will ruin your life forever?
-
Obviously it's not the same for everyone. It's the same as verbal bullying, which also affects a lot of people. Most people will be able to get past it, like you apparently, but all people are different. Some people are deeply hurt when bullies(especially people with clinical depression) harass them, and social media only makes it easier and more anonymous.
-
Nobody should care what others say. Big deal. They called you a name over the Internet. That's only going to hurt them in the long run. Good luck with them getting into big jobs with stuff like that on their page. They'll be stuck working at McDonald's for the rest of their life. Big deal if someone called you a name. They are the idiots hiding behind their screen.
Can somebody tell me how something someone says to you on the Internet will ruin your life forever?
I can only speak from my own experience, but I've had encounters with users on this site who harassed me via PM under dozens of different accounts, which is inconvenient, but manageable. The problem is when they started tracking down my personal social media accounts, contacting my employer, etc.
-
That's inappropriate of them. Immature idiots thinking they are funny. But by no means should you feel offended by that. I would be flattered that they took the time to track my info down.
-
That's because cyberbullying is a myth and anyone who claims to be getting cyberbullied is really just saying "I am choosing to be a victim".

isn't that most of the internet, though? pretty sure the teen that killed herself from "cyberbullying" and then became the posterchild against it was later found to actually have been just batshit insane and sending herself the messages from a different email.
-
I'd like to make the sanity plee m'lord.
