I think it's a sturdy enough concept if we're correct about the universe being flat and ending in heat death. I mean, from what we understand about the initial conditions of the universe, this heat death would result in almost exactly the same conditions. Now, when you start moving the slider, say, from after the Big Bang, that is something that I find conflict with because a flat universe would not be cyclic.
