When the stream was first out I remember hearing about a different mode of strike...something like exclusive strikes or something like that. I can't recall exactly but it was another way to gain 335 gear. Is this actually something or did I make that up in my mind?

It was referring to "Strike exclusive drops" such as Treads Upon Stars, Darkblade Helm, etc. These are now capable of dropping at up to max light. I believe the taken shotgun will be a strike exclusive for the taken version of Winter's Run (Archon Priest). Drop rates are pretty low for these, but will now be worth the grind!
