"Updated Gear"

(TL;DR at the bottom) Apparently, what Bungie means by those words isn't what I want them to mean. Now, what I want them to mean (and I assume I'm not the only one) is that I'm going to be able to take my existing Y1 gear and bring it up to current Y2 standards. However, what they actually mean is that we're going to have to re-earn our Y1 gear, again. That is entirely missing the mark, in my eyes. To explain; When myself, or others in the community bring up the desire for updated Y1 content, we're not solely requesting an update to existing Y1 activities, because that's only half the issue; we've also been voicing a desire for updating our existing Y1 gear. While often discussed as a single concept, these are two very distinct requests, that serve to address two very different shortcomings; the former would alleviate the apparent lack of content, but the latter would be a step towards Bungie re-establishing their respect for players' efforts, by validation the rewards they've already earned. Now, the first one is pretty self-explanatory, and is an important step to addressing Destiny's immediate issues, no doubt. However, the issue of gear is less cut-and-dry, because it isn't just about adding more content; it's about showing players respect, which is more import to Destiny's long-term issues of player-retention and trust. As a result, if our existing Y1 gear isn't brought forward, and Bungie simply adds new Endgame gear in its place (however similar it may be to its predecessors), it wouldn't fully accomplish the same end. It might have a similar effect on the surface, in that it would ultimately help to increase gear variety and rejuvenate existing Y1 content, but it would still continue to overlook the incredibly crucial issue of respecting the players, and the efforts they already put into the game. Now, Bungie; At this point, there's obviously not enough time to change what you guys have planned for the April Update, so I understand that the immediate fate of our Y1 gear isn't going to change between now and then. However, I still think that publicly having this discussion is crucial, because even if we can't find solutions to these issues immediately, they will continue to persist into the future, and the sooner we can find common ground between the community and the developers, the better. If the game respects the player, then the player will respect the game, and I think that's what we all want; mutual respect. :) TL;DR- If players are asking for their old gear to matter again (and a ton of us are!), then the only way to satisfy that request is by doing just that; allowing them to upgrade their existing gear. Even if Bungie goes so far as to re-introduce classic gear back into the loot pool for players to get again (like what's happeneing with select Y1 gear in the April Update), it is NOT the same thing, and it doesn't accomplish the same thing. When we ask for our gear to mean something, we literally mean our gear, the stuff we already have in our hands (virtually speaking, of course).

 • Bump. Bungie, I won't come back till you respect my time and bring all year 1 gear to the current level cap. I have no intention of regrinding for gear I already own. With the release of Destiny 2 is when my gear becomes obsolete. These terms are non-negotiable! It's my time and money you want.
