What's wrong with upgrading old items and adding new gear? I feel it would been really cool to be able to update Y1 weapons/gear to be relevant with Y2 stuff. Certainly this could only add to the greatness of the game. Absolutely nothing would be lost by allowing the continual upgrade of some of our favorite old gear while at the same time adding to the arsenal some new and fresh weapons/armor.
Just my thoughts.

Not a good thing. If we brought back Year 1 items, no one would use Year 2 guns. After that, adding new guns would be useless, as everyone would only use the three guns that are the best in the game. "Well lets just make new guns stronger, duh!" You say, and my response is short "Power Creep" I really don't want to use only 3 guns for the next 8 years. If you are still asking yourself the same questions, please go watch some videos from Datto and PlanetDestiny, they both have multiple videos on power creep, item restarts and content cycles.
