Arcom: Genesis

In the early days of Destiny, a lone guardian named Sergeant_Saundy roamed the wastelands of the galaxy. A titan alone with his ghost, searching the nearby planets for resources, for clues, for purpose. His loneliness was only occasionally satisfied but never fully, though deep inside he knew his legacy would be great some day, somehow. While patroling the Cosmodrome, battling Fallen and gathering materials, Saundy happened across an unusual artifact in the shape of a triangle, with two smaller triangular cutouts and a long extended piece making up the middle point. According to legend it was an item the likes of which even Eris Morn had never seen. After consulting with all the Tower's faction heads and the Speaker himself, the humbled titan was unable to find anyone capable of identifying the relic or its meaning, and so he tucked it away and carried it with him; certain he would one day understand. Saundy continued to scour the solar system for companions; comrades in arms against the darkness. He made powerful allies but, in time, their paths led away from each other. After a particularly harrowing evening of Crucible training, Saundy reveled in the Tower with his fellow guardians, exchanging stories and becoming quite tipsy from all the apple juice. He wandered away from the Tower and out into the midst of the Last City. He called out as he looked upon the Traveler. He lamented how he was lonely in his quest to protect the light and push back the invading darkness. Saundy reached into his pocket, grasped for something, then threw his arm up, holding the artifact high above his head and out toward the Traveler. "Just tell me what this means!" he demanded. Suddenly, a sound emanated from the Traveler. It sounded like a hydraulic door being opened. Soon, a beacon of light shone all around him and he felt himself being lifted from the ground. Slowly, he was raised up through the light until it was so bright he could not see out of it. The next thing he knew he was standing inside the Traveler and surrounded by the glossy white rounded interior walls which were empty, save for softly blinking lights. Everything was white and seemed to have light radiating from it. In the center there was a single console. He stood, fixated, trying to get his eyes to adjust. She spoke to him. While her words were in a language Saundy couldn't identify, he was oddly aware that he could understand it anyway. The voice was calm; almost ethereal. It directed him to the console. "Place it there", she said, using English for the first time. The titan looked down at the console and found a single indention in the shape of a triangle. He leaned in closer and ran his fingers over the indention, realizing suddenly it was an exact match for the artifact! Trembling now, he pulled the relic from his pocket and placed it gently into the console. "I'm pleased with you, guardian", she sighed. The lights became brigher all around him. Light. Explosion. Falling. Awaking. Saundy was back in the Last City, once again looking upon the Traveler. Arcing out in all directions like shooting stars were tiny pieces of light. Too many to count. Thousands. To this day, ghosts are still finding these pieces of light and bringing new members into the fold. As each guardian awakens, our ranks grow and our power against the darkness increases. Some will be fortunate enough to bear the family name and proudly represent our symbol as we go into battle to honor our Traveler mother. In memory of our founding we are the beacon of light. We are Arcom. Welcome home, guardians.
