In Response to "We Already Paid For It"

EDIT: There is a difference between buying something and later receiving an extra surprise that was never part of what you agreed to pay for, and actually buying that something extra. You only bought what you originally exchanged money for, so don't act angry and entitled when something extra is not to your liking because that something extra was never part of the deal. That's essentially the point. With regards to the upcoming Spring Update, which is free if you already bought TTK, a lot of people are insisting that they already paid for it, which is just silly to me. The mental gymnastics people engage in to justify their sense of entitlement is amazing. - When buying TTK, nowhere did it say you're also paying for a future update of content. That was never part of the deal. It's like buying a box of chocolates one day, and the makers of the chocolate surprise you with a smaller box of chocolate that's free to anyone who bought the first box. When you bought the first box of chocolate, there was never a reasonable expectation that you would receive a smaller second box. Likewise, there is no reason to believe Bungie owes you. - When you buy micro-transaction items, you're not buying future updates, you're buying the item you're literally paying for. If you bought an emote, you only paid for the emote. If you bought some sparrow kit, you only bought a sparrow kit. You didn't buy whatever Bungie decides to spend that money on. - Yes, the Prison of Elders portion of the upcoming content is essentially a tweaked and improved version of something you already paid for (PoE from House of Wolves), but that does not entitle you to the new tweaked and improved product. If you buy a car of a make and model, you're not entitled to the slightly tweaked and improved new model released next year. The car you paid for is still there, and likewise, the content you paid for with HoW is still there (the original PoE), so there is no reason to feel the new product is owed to you. When you buy a product, it does not come with the expectation that you will get the new version of that product when such a new version releases. - Sure, raising Vault of Glass and Crota's End to end-game levels with end-game infusable gear along with Prison of Elders would have been great, but the bottom line is that there was no obligation on Bungie's part to give you this update at all, but they are doing it anyway. They could have charged $5 and got away with it, but they didn't. If you bought TTK, this update is FREE, I guess anyone who is not an entitled child must be a "desticle," right? :p Given the toxic nature of this community, I think I should probably avoid comments, but I'm not sure I can.

    • I paid for TTK. The content being released on the 12th next month is included with my purchase of ttk. I paid for the update. How is that hard to understand? I can put it another way. A person does not have TTK, the last expansion they got was HoW. Said person now want's to do a taken PoE. Said person buys ttk which has the taken PoE content included. Either way the content update has been paid for.

      • Here's what people don't get: TTK Removed activities and forcedly updated them to Y2, not allowing Y1s to play. This free update however, ADDS a new PoE challenge instead of REPLACING said activity like TTK did

          • Only thing I disagree with is Bungie not having any reason to give us this update. Uhh, yeah, they do lol. They want people to keep playing, I bet. Again, agree with everything else.
-If you buy a car of a make and model, you're not entitled to the slightly tweaked and improved new model released next year.
No but the company does have a warranty that makes sure the car is properly running and will take care of any issues it has within its warranty time frame. Even then if there is a recall, no matter if the car is 20 years old, they will take care of the issue without charging their customers.

                • Its not free. This was explained shortly after TTK released. There would be no new DLCS and any content that came after was in fact paid for buy buying silver.

                • This isn't some great magnanimous gesture from Bungie. If they could avoid doing this then they would, but the fact is Destiny is haemorrhaging players, and this is the lowest cost option for them to try and stem the bleeding. POE is probably the simplest piece of content to update but its also the one people have the least time for. Making the raids relevant to year 2 would be far more challenging but would probably bring a lot more players back to the game, so if they were really concerned about the long term success of the franchise it would have been in their interests to do it, or even release an entirely new raid. You can say that we didn't pay for any extra content, but for anyone outside the US (which, remember, is more than half the player base) they charged the price of a full game for TTK, which did not come with a full games worth of content. This was on the premise that they would abandon the paid DLC model for a series of smaller, free, updates and events (which have all been terrible). These events have been time restricted and are no longer available so you could also argue that they aren't actually new content at all, as we no longer have access to them. Based on that I'd say yes, we did pay for this particularly as they specifically said on the release of TTK that they would be regularly releasing free content throughout year 2. Its just a shame that this free content is so half arsed. This is simply their response to a declining player base and a way to keep the people who are left interested enough to buy the last DLC. Personally I don't feel any gratitude towards them for releasing content I probably won't play as their motivation for doing it is so transparent. This isn't a 'gift' to the players, its a business move. They've sat down and said what is the minimum we can get away with packaging as the major content update they've been promising since the launch of TTK, and this is what they've come up with.

Our Silver paid for it. Didn't Bungie say they would use the money from silver purchases to give "free" content. Some people have spent almost more than $60 on silver, that is more than enough to cover this update as a "free" purchase.

                    • They are bringing back a 1/4 of the 3/4 of the game they took away when TTK dropped (not to mention it's the least favourite of all expansions they have released). I find it hilarious that you desticles continue to suck bungies d!ck for any scraps of gameplay that they release, no wonder they continue to set the bar lower and lower.

It not so much entitlement as it is disappointment. Many of the diehard Destiny players, like myself, were really hoping that Bungie would give us an update that would really entice us to keep playing regularly. As it is now, I normally Raid 3x per week and maybe do a little Trials. Yes, this update does give us a little more to do, but it is not the type of content that we had hoped for or are really excited to get. I would have gladly paid $10-15 for a revamped VOG and Crota Raid, so just because it's free doesn't necessarily mean that I should be satisfied or excited. I absolutely enjoy playing Destiny. I've played it more than any game in my life. I'm pretty sure I've put in more time than 90% of our player base. I was really hoping for content that we've been asking for and not a revamped version of something that more than half of the original Year 1 players disliked (especially when they didn't correct 2 of the biggest Y1 complaints, i.e. No checkpoints, and no matchmaking). Yes, I'm a defender of Destiny--a Desticle if you will. However, right now I'm a pretty disappointed one.
