The Ship is pretty sexy but do you think they could've spent the money on something else? In what situation would the US ever have to use this ship?
So basically the Question is the Zumwalt worth every penny or is it a massive waste of money?
Edit: Looks like 3.5 billion was the original estimate but according to This it cost over 7 billion.

7 Billion is literally nothing in the eyes of the DoD

Edited by WartyBean39438: 3/25/2016 1:20:07 AMMommy can I have one?

*Prepares laser face* I think getting a jump on the UNSC should be a priority. I want MAC cannons and spacefaring battleships.
-
I don't see it being much useful outside of coastal waters.
-
It's always good to stay ahead in the field of military technology.
-
I like it.
-
I think it's a waste of money. I don't claim to know anything about the Navy though.
-
It's not like U.S. not in major debt......
-
It's a waste frankly but the military likes the big dull pointy ships.
-
It's a massive waste of money for an outdated design that's been proven to be unseaworthy and prone to sinking. They could have built 3 Arleigh-Burkes for less than 3.5 Billion
-
Use that money to fund science, not war, like wtf bungie
-
The RRS BoatyMcBoatFace has no opinion, as he believes all boats are welcome in the 7 seas

In what situation would we need it? Well sounds like any major military conflict it might be useful. Also with a small radar signature, espionage missions would benefit from it. Could that money be used else were? Of course it could be, in fact, any money put towards the military could be used else were. Any money used for the NSA or government research could be used else were for that matter. The issue here is that hind sight is 20/20. It sounds like there is some good tech in there and that having a few of these ships out there is probably a good thing in the long run. Should they pump money into many of these? Probably not without some major military conflict to demand it. However, having this ship might lead to another ship design with similar capabilities and tech with a lower budget. Look at it this way, if we were to find out tomorrow that China/north Korea/Russia had some highly advanced warship sitting on our doorstep that we did not know about, we'd be glad to have this new ship.

Dude, railgun Totally worth it
-
Hmm...is it a good battering ram?
-
Forget the Zumwalt, we need this.
-
Boaty McBoatFace > Zumwalt
-
It has a frickin laser. Totally worth it
-
Can I call it Boaty Mcboatface?
-
We should be investing in combat capable space vessels instead.

No opinion at all

I live near Flint and have been there many times Flint has had bad water for decades. My grandfather can attest to that as his coworkers from Flint would fill up jugs of water top take home for their coffee..........50 YEARS AGO! Flint is a cesspool. It is routinely top 5 most violent cities in the US. The residents trash their city. They have already been given millions and millions of dollars
-
It's good for what it is, that being a prototype and testbed for new toys. Not very likely to be put into mass production, but could come in very useful for expanding weapons and stealth tech. Also, could be something of an ace in our sleeve.

This ship IS NOT a waste. This is going to be the most dynamic naval vessel in the world. Said to be able to "bust coasts" single handidly. We need things like this on OUR side. The US always needs to keep the upperhand. We arent the world leader in everything now a days but the one thing we are is military and we need to keep it that way
-
Srsly? We are still bringing up flint? The place has been a shit hole since it was built.

Not to burst your bubble here, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure they've got one either done or close to done by now...
