Religious people please read.
So ive been reading The Revenant, and in the Twenty Third chapter, there is a text that made me pause.

Ive been an atheist all my life and never really understood the concept of religion. "How could anyone believe in a bearded man living in the clouds judging people?"
Basically the point of my thread is to ask, is this how you see your religion? As an idea? Not as some bearded man? Im curious.

I see God as a scientist. Starting an experiment. Only stepping in when things get really bad. We see him as the tools he uses.

The way I see it, no matter what way you look at it, something must make up those quarks that make up the universe. And whatever makes them up must be made up of something else, and something else, etc. Something—someone—had to make all this; it can't just have all appeared out of nothingness one day on its own. That someone is God, and he created everything, from the subatomic particles that make up your phone to all the specific personality traits of Donald Trump to that deep feeling of love you get when you think about your crush. I have a strong belief that God exists, and that's called faith. I believe that's what the passage is getting at.

There's a difference between religion and faith. Religion is a man made series of rituals and beliefs taken from an original ideology, ie: catholicism. Faith, in this reference, is the belief that there is more than life; an afterlife...that there's a purpose to life more than just existence...and again in this reference, that there is a higher being; or creator, that made us and gave us life; whatever that higher being may be. Sure there's no proof, but then faith is an inner feeling of truth, meaning, and importance. It's hope. I was agnostic for most of my life because religion is so corrupt. I came into my faith because it was what I needed. Not to mention, it seems just as probable as the universe springing to life from a subatomic particle, infinity dense, and without the presence of law.

God an idea? I think that we are the idea. An interesting thought explored in an infinite mind.

imo religion is a way to: 1. explain the unexplainable 2. attribute meaning to happenstance 3. measure their actions against a standard it's human nature to search for answers and when you reach a question that you can't answer. you make one up.

A relationship with the creator of the universe. Perhaps a fulfillment of our purpose. Seeing that we creatures on earth are the only sentient life that we know of, I'd say, why not? I mean surely, since the sheer complexity of this universe, we should be impossible. How can we be so perfectly complex, yet so fragile? I'm sure there is a God. We all have ideas, but one idea that never seems to die away is the idea of a creator. When we think about the universe and how massive it is, we must remember that if there is in fact a creator, he is much larger than the largest possible Galaxy. He's more magnificent than all the stars in he universe. If there is in fact a creator, then he's created all that we see, do, and feel. He designed the world and its creatures, cell by cell. That's pretty incredible to think about.

I believe God is real. Dont think of him as being a particular thing or entity. He just is and everything.
