A new epidemic

Year 1 players will remember how during the release of the House of Wolves, the crucible meta took a nosedive as it became dominated by three guns: The Last Word, Hawkmoon, and (worst of all) Thorn. As it stands right now, the meta is still pretty diverse, but a new problem is cropping up: The Doctrine of Passing. This gun, having the highest rate of fire and lowest impact of all auto rifles, is starting to become a new problem in the current meta, as it is ridiculously hard to counter. Don't get me wrong, it is not as bad as the Thorn used to be, but it has become the essential companion to a lot of snipers, starting to replace The Last Word for those who wish to use their heavy slot for another weapon, such as Truth. Additionally, Trials groups have started running two or three users per group, making them nearly unapproachable is some circumstances, as opposing teams are literally walking into a hail of bullets. I own one of these guns, and as much as I like it, I shouldn't be forced to use it one a given match starts devolving into a bullet-hose competition where everyone who wants any kind of a killstreak uses the auto rifle or gets blown away. As much fun as it is to use that gun, I just wanted to bring the alarming increase of its use to the forefront lest we have a new epidemic infest our meta. I like experimenting with guns (I'm currently getting used to my shiny new Suros DIS-47), and I'm sure others feel the same way. I don't want one gun to drown out the competition again. Thank you. Edit: After looking at the responses, I have two things to add: 1) Stop with the "get gud" garbage. All you are really saying is that you have no honor in combat and enjoy looking down at others though your nose. This comment is essentially a verbal t-bag that only depicts you as scrubs with no morals or sense of sportsmanship. Save yourself the humiliation and just knock it off, please. 2) I am not ranting/whining/complaining, I am stating my opinion on this. It is not fair to me, or other posters of similar topics, to make us out to be the villains. I have endeavored to be as humble as possible, and all I want is to bring this to people's attention before it becomes a bigger problem than it's starting to be. I have engaged in about 5-6 matches today, mostly rumble, and have run into an unhealthy amount of DoT users, with others switching to it (and in one case Aetheon's Epilogue) as the match progresses just to keep up. Yes, I did go into those with a NLB to train, and that does reflect on my K/D, yet that isn't the issue. This gun is beginning to create a rift between those that have it and those that don't, and while a few guns can keep up with it's TTK, users still have the advantage of using a different exotic (often truth). I have measured it's kill range, and it reaches a lot further than most would think (about to the middle pillar of the Mercury map), so even if bungie shortens the range just a tiny bit, the gun would remain viable without being overpowered. This may just be me, but I would rather bring this to attention while the problem is in it's infancy before it evolves into an elitist standard of requiring that gun to be good (the same way almost everyone had to run Thorn to keep up with others). I'm sorry that some of you feel like I'm some noob stepping on everyone's toes, but this is how I honestly feel.

  • The doctrine of passing is not overpowered. It has amazing perks that make a gun work extremely well. There are many other guns out in the destiny world, that are superior to the doctoring of passing. However, you do not see many of them because we cannot reforge guns. This is why the doctrine of passing stands out. The fact that Destiny players cannot reforge the guns of their choice. Makes life difficult for the average Destiny player. If reforging was still a option we would not be talking about the doctrine of passing.

  • Persistence is a very powerful for this weapon type. Remember vog raid lmg that was a bullet hose. It isn't really the guns fault the perks make it a crutch.

  • Okay don't git gud, get out of the way. Don't walk toward a hail of bullets. It's an auto rifle you can counter that.

    • Things that beat a doctrine: Mida Monte Carlo NL shadow TLW Arminus D Hung jury Jade rabbit NLB Fabian strategy I could go on, but there really isn't a reason. Any weapon will beat the doctrine, if you get the first shot off, likewise, if doctrine hits you first, then of course you will get dominated unless you evade.

      • You have a good point. The meta is better then the Thorn Era. And you have a lot more guns that are viable. But I have noticed that certain ones are becoming a problem. DoP being one of them.

      • The new epidemic is people using thorn again. These plebs are pathetic. Way more people are going to start using it to counter it. For gods sake bungie please dont make a y2 thorn. Better still get rid of it all together.

Every gun is a problem. You know why? Because you whine like all the other Crucibabies. I've been playing fps's since Doom and never has there been an fps where players whined so much about guns that every other post is a "nerf" one, and Bungie listens to these idiots. My god? Would you whine like this about a racing game? Or a sports game? Hell, chess! "OMG, I play chess and the other player is beating me. They need to nerf the top left corner of the board. They need to nerf the Bishop. My King is too weak compared to their pong." "Only scrubs use the Knight." That's you, and everyone else who has contributed to the nerf epidemic. People want to win and will use any method. Any method to do so. You yourself have admitted to using the so-called "op doctrine." That makes you a raging hypocrite. I use weapons I feel I am comfortable with and the ones that fit my play style. I like shotguns, but go ahead. Call me a scrub. I don't whine about 1k stare snipers. Why? Because players are better than me and enjoy using it.

          • It's more like a strength in numbers thing. The weapon is fine when it's one person using but when the entire enemy team is hosing hallways with bullets it's almost impossible to beat with the layout of the maps.

It's literally .04% more powerful now than when it was first introduced. So either that .04% buff made it OP, or, more likely in my opinion, it's just an annoying gun to play against because everyone has suddenly started using it. The gun itself isn't to blame, blame the people that flock to whatever the big name streamer is using.

            • The range indeed goes far in the sense that there's a limit to damage dropoff, but anyone with a decent aim who uses a scout rifle for example will outgun a doctrine at midrange

I've gotten wrecked by DOP, but mainly because they either catch me off guard, or I'm testing other weapons to use. Majority of the time I wreck DOP in a mid to long range firefight

              • Remember that weapon buff? Yeah the .04% buff? Heh. That buff was for the highest rate of fire archetype. It wouldn't affect the guns, they said... It would be stupid, they said.(

                • Please don't nerf the DoP. It will effect all other Auto rifles and make them trash again. There is only a few of these archetypes out there anyway, so suck it up for a bit and wait for the next Meta.

                • I don't want the DOP nerfed. Having said that, I am a hand cannons user and facing the doctrine with any hand cannon not called the LAst Word is not easy. The problem are the blank shots

I don't have either of those guns and I manage. I suck as a player so maybe not caring as much as others helps. Just don't get close and use grenades a lot lol. I use solar before anyone gets all puffy and stupid about bolts. I throw it at their feet and chase them as they run from a distance. If I'm close I run hahaha

                  • I don't mind DoP. It's plenty of weapons that can counter it. Also, the gunsmith sold Arminius-D recently. So eventually you'll see those a lot more once some good rolls generate from the gunsmith.
