there's a game that I think did well with a system similar to destinys perk system. they called it the potential system and you had to climb a ladder of tiers to make the weapon better. you don't got to watch the whole video. https://youtu.be/CgFmInGQJKc the tiers were common (no potential) rare epic unique legendary sorry for not going to into detail but a system like this would be interesting. since you would have to spend ingame resources to climb the ladder of tiers and rolls. I promise to elaborate what can be done with this system after I get out of work

  • Alright ima provide some quick info about the system. The game I got the idea from was a game called Maplestory. it is a MMORPG that has bosses and what not just like destiny. 1. it is a similar system as to reforging but to enable your gear to reforge you have to first give it a potential. 2. potentials are the perks your weapon will roll with lower tier potentials do not grant the same bonus as higher tiered potentials. (ex: uncommon weapon with crowd control would gain a 5% bonus to damage after a kill instead of the original 25%. Now a weapon that is Legendary with the crowd control perk will get the full 25% due to it being of a higher tier.) 3. Tiers go as followed Common - This tier is the lowest which will have no perks available. All weapons will start out as this but there is a percent chance that you can pick up a weapon of a higher tier unlocked already. Rare / Uncommon - This tier is the first tier that allows you access to low tier perks. ( crowd control +5%) Epic - This tier is better than above tier but still limits you to low and mid tier perks. ( crowd control +10%) Unique - This is the equivalent of Legendary gear for us. It offers players mid tier and high tier perks and is a nice place to stop at but their is one more tier above that gurantees the best gains from perks. (crowd control +15-20%) Legendary - The highest tier possible in the game that gives the maximum benefit from all perks and is where you want to be. (crowd control +25%) 4. There is no exotic tier as legendary means you have achieved the maximum the weapon can obtain. In a sense All Gear with the legendary tier are all exotic but you can equip them all without limitations. 5. This will open up all level 40 Taken King gear (armor & weapons) for use instead of our current limited selection in armor and weapons. 6. Now for a feature from the game that I think everyone might enjoy. In the game there is a bonus called Sets. these sets are based off of your armor and weapons. I will use Vault of Glass as an excellent example of a set. you have your full vog armor and weapons. The sets had tiers as well but only required you to equip the armor to enable the benefits. These sets would include somethings like. Cool down on all abilities reduced by 10% or Increased damage against all enemies of a species. They were a great way to gear up for say a boss fight against crota or Atheon. Of course they are currently irrelevant but what if they were brought back? but harder than ever? the armor sets would increase your ability to beat the new/renewed raids. The negatives A major negative when this system first released was the fact the game (Maplestory) became complete P2W. You had to spend hundreds ( I mean it hundreds for high end gear.) What made it worse was the ability to trade gear over from player to player enabling people to make money off of gear they maxed out and sold for more than what they spent into it. Of course the company for maplestory decided to create a new server where there was no trading and didn't have to spend real money to obtain the ability to reforge your gear. so yes this is my idea implement something of similar to maplestory or you can simply call me a scrub and GTFO cuz its a complex system wih reforging in it
