I'm technically pro-choice but I think it's worth pointing out John Oliver is extremely biased and all of his segments reflect this.
He doesn't even try to offer alternative view.

No, he does show their side. Then he refutes it with his hilarious british banter and responds with "c'mon, it's the current year, how can you be behind this bigotry?"

He played clips of pro-life people giving their reasoning a few times ("It's for women's health.") It's not wrong to be biased. Biased doesn't mean unfair.
-
Ehh? bi·ased ˈbīəst/ adjective adjective: biased unfairly prejudiced for or against someone or something. "we will not tolerate this biased media coverage"
-
He takes clips out of context then proceeds to joke off of them. Bias is inherent to all people but a production can present multiple views fairly by sourcing from people with different biases. The show makes little to no attempt to do this and deliberately singles out the most ignorant and inarticulate of opposing views to riff at their expense. Personally to me the biggest crime a entertainer can commit is show their bias and not be a equal opportunity offender. Followed by failing to actually entertain, granted the show is not at all a equal opportunity offender it is at least still funny at times.

If it was a proper news show... You know like BBC, CNN and the like then yes I'd say the bias is unacceptable.... But its a comedy show about the news.... They're not journalists they are comedians so bias is to be expected.
-
I like my entertainers and comedians to at least try to be equal opportunity offenders. Because you see all too often entertainment is used as just another means of pushing an agenda and it really starts to look like that to me when a comedian or entertainer of some kind is uneven in who they make fun of.
-
I don't know comedians kinda always lean one way or another... It's kinda the point... Pretty difficult to present an neutral even view on a topic and make it funny. I get where you're coming from and I agree for the most part... just don't think it's a standard that can be blanketed over all entertainment/entertainers.

The Daily show did it well under Jon Stewart though.
The Daily show did it well under Jon Stewart though.
He was still left leaning and pretty obvious about it too. Oliver, Noah and Stewart all do the same thing, point out the absurdities, make fun of them, mix in some personal opinion.
-
Yet.... Jon Stewart and Trevor Noah would always display the other side before disproving it. Oliver just says " come on.... There's no way anyone can believe the opposite" And continues off with his rant.
-
Can't argue with that... He definitely is all about the rant. I don't feel like they aren't too unwarranted he does tend to set them up with info on why/where and the opposite view (if in the most simplest way) before going off.

I see him as more entertainment. But I feel like he is more about shatter the norm and showing people the truth about certain topics.
-
Maybe the truth as you see it but almost all the topics hes gone over are subjective yet he presentes them like there objective. I rarely agree with him but that's not why I watch the show I watch it for entertainment but a lot of people treat this genre of show as their primary news source.
-
I wouldn't use it as a primary news source. I just like his segments where he beings uncommon knowledge into the light.
