They are transcendent reality warpers, there is nothing that can kill them in the Halo universe (or any physical universe), not even the Halos themselves. Actually the Flood is The results of the remains of 1000 precursors who turned their bodies to dust to be restored at a later date being corrupted (supposedly it was the passing of 10 million years that corrupted the dust, but it may have also been the Primordial).

Huh fascinating. I wander what the vex would do with these guys because they successfully recreated Oryx in their image when they breached the Throne World. I wander if they could recreate the Precursor to further study and destroy it if necessary

Unknown. The two main ideas of mine are they either always existed, or they existed in a physical universe then transcended somehow. They are the creators of all known life in halo, so maybe they always existed and decided to create? But in the end, idk.
