He drains one glass, gets another and raises it in greeting to her.
"We were all chosen for this, some could not refuse orders. To think I'd be on the same ship as some of the people who killed my men."

"Your Geth? He is in armory, getting my boys up to date software for their armor. Is he always like that?"

"Yup, I had him in charge of keeping my ship up to date and repairing it. He's wonderful with technology but doesn't understand jokes, sarcasm, metaphors or figures of speech."

The Russian laughed. "That is true, some concepts are foreign to him others are not so." He smiled smugly.

"You do not remember? And after I helped clear your name too."

"It's not that I don't remember you, It's that I'm bad with names."

"I'm Dmitri Volkov, you knew me as a major, I'm now a colonel."

"Good for you, you deserve that promotion. So how has the new government been working out?"

"Well enough, it's not as strong as the autocracy and they cut down on the military. Lucky for me, 7th group was maintained but they cut spending to pensions and veterans affairs."

"That's not a good idea, hopefully they try to keep everything at peace and not commit the atrocities the old one made."

"They won't, most corrupt officials were imprisoned or killed. The rest will certainly keep away. Besides, the Russians are very tired of the war, and without us what's left of the federation would fall."

"Alright, I'm happy with that. Has work been hard?"

"It has been. It will be. I do hear you have responsibility among your people, so I imagine you know the feeling exactly."

"Nope, I'm a exile. They don't care about me."

He looked at her for a moment. "Exile yes, but still a leader of sorts. The Geth spilled the beans, your pull extends father then even you think."

"Wait...... What do you mean by that?"

"How many other exiles do you have under your wing? Hundreds? Thousands? I know it's quite a few."

"I don't know of any exiles that follow my example, I did get a few quarians on pilgrimage to see me as a good person due to me saving them from a slave selling asari."

The Russian laughed. "Believe it or not people do. A lot of people do. Those quarians met more in need, they helped them, now you've quite the following."

"Wow, I guess that's good, I think I'll start my own fleet when I return to the milky way, travel across the galaxy doing good deeds and helping those that need it."

"That's a pretty big if. Not sure this mission has a return ticket attached."

"Who knows, maybe we'll spend the rest of our lives exploring. Or we'll come back one day....."
