Firstly, I have a concern for putting this in a tier between exotic and legendary. If this were the case, then everyone would exclusively use custom made guns as they would be better than the legendaries that everyone already uses. This would drastically reduce the weapon load outs and create a less diverse game. Imagine if everyone got the ability to craft a perfect hawksaw (back when pulses were king). Wouldn't this ruin the viability of using weapons besides the hawksaw? This essentially lets every player have the best or second best weapon in the game guaranteed. This doesn't just help alleviate RNG, it destroys it. What's the point of raiding or going flawless in ToO if the best weapon is craftable? I think putting this as a tier better than rare but worse than legendary would allow people who aren't getting the drops for a specific weapon to still be competitive without threatening the weapon economy. This still alleviates RNG without destroying it. Also, there was no discussion on how perks would work in the original post. Would the crafter pick or are they random according to archetype?

  • These are valid concerns and critique, to be sure. I would be more than happy to address them and come to a head. I put these as between Exotics and Legendaries since at my point in the game rares exist solely to be broken down and not worth keeping. Perhaps this is short-sided, and I find myself agreeing with them being somewhere between Rare and Legendary. That seems like an acceptable compromise. I'd also say to alleviate your Trials concern, Trials weapons should have unique perks to them that you couldn't get on any other guns. As for perks, I didn't go into extreme detail since there seems to be a hidden character limit to these threads and I am never sure what the limit is. ( Among other issues.) I'd say the perks would be random BUT there would be a certain pool of perks that it would be restricted to depending on the Frame and Archetype. To make this more appealing, there should be a set of good perks on each Archetype that player's should strive for. Does that answer any of your concerns?

  • That answers my concern. I too am at the point where blue equals garbage, but from a pvp perspective there are a couple of blue guns that can work as decent replacements for harder to acquire legendaries. The crafting would essentially always make those blue guns available for any archetype. I do think that there is some merit in choosing which perks roll on the gun, simply because these guns wouldn't be better than their legendary counterparts. Maybe you can choose one or two perks while the others are random, so that you get some control but not enough to be able to abuse the system.

  • I know a lot of folks play PVP, but as a primarily PVE player I must have failed to take that into account. (I don't hate PVP, but man does it get heated and sometimes needlessly so.) Sadly, anytime perks are involved in PVP there always seems to be that one that rules them all. I would love folks to pick perks on a gun in this hypothetical system, I wonder how it might be abused. There's always that one or two oversights that lead to a huge exploit, so I appreciate you taking the time to point out what they might be.
