Depending on how you view it, sex work can actually be empowering because to a degree you're exploiting others for their money by providing a service that's entirely natural and takes little effort on your part. Perspective makes a difference, just a matter of which perspective you choose to take. I understand how it could be considered degrading as well.

Sex workers provide a service that most everyone wants and/or needs. The only thing that makes it degrading is how sex workers are treated by people like you who think it's degrading.

Depends on what kind of sex work. Full service sex work (prostitution) is illegal, though it shouldn't be. Webcam modeling, stripping, dominatrixing, phone sex operating, and porn are all legal, and all can make you shitloads of money if you're dedicated and know what you're doing. I know cam girls who make 40k a month.
